potato4k, 02 Apr 2024Chromium-based != Chrome. Chrome is not open source. Chromium is.This is a saying that is constantly repeated, but it is not true.
It's not enough to be open source, you shouldn't be subject to principles and features that destroy privacy. Even if you use a Chromium browser, it's not enough when you can find dozens of ways to intercept money-loving companies.

The best way is to disable unused features, Chromite is a good example. I do not recommend browsers like "Brave" at all.

Anonymous, 03 Apr 2024"99% of Android vendors are relying on Google's p... moreYou misunderstood the meaning of my sentence. I know that vendors can choose not to use GMS on their Android OS. It's just the majority of vendors that choose to use GMS on their Android OS because the majority of consumers really need it (not me though). That's what I Medan with "relying".

See what happened with Huawei's marketshare after they're not allowed to use GMS anymore? And if GMS isn't that important to majority of people, then there won't be so many tutorials of how to install GMS on Amazon Fire Tablet and Windows Subsystem for Android (which again, doesn't has GMS by default).

What about me? I uninstalled GMS on my Samsung btw, since none of my apps are relying on GMS. My gaming performance feels a bit smoother somehow. 🤣

Even you can not completely de-google your phone if it was was shipped with Google apps package installed. It harms basic functions of os working. Only rooting does not help, you have to use custom rom which does not rely on play services.

That not true. Looks like you never left your habit of making lie statement.

Android vendor only use Google Play service if they use Google Apps package preinstalled (Play store+ Youtube + Gmail, etc.).

So, Android can basically be free to use without control of Google. People can also de-google their phone by rooting it.

potato4k, 02 Apr 2024Chromium-based != Chrome. Chrome is not open source. Chromium is.Most of them are still relying on Google's proprietary engine though, like Widevine DRM, and many more (which I don't really know because I don't dig this information deeper, but I know it's existed).

Similar to how 99% of Android vendors are relying on Google's proprietary Google Play Services.

With so many Chromium-based browsers out there, I'm really baffled why so many people still use Chrome.

My go to browsers now are Edge on desktops and DuckDuckGo on my Android, with Brave as my secondary choice and Firefox as backup.
