IDC: Samsung back as top smartphone vendor, market up 7.8%

The first quarter of 2024 sees global smartphone sales increase by 7.8%.

I kind of expected this to happen given all the price segments that Samsung competes in, that Apple simply doesn't. In fact, I was significantly more surprised when Apple reached the top spot!

    its....baffling

      Those numbers despite they are accurate they arent valid and they arent equal.
      In other word make all phones from all brands available for sale in every of 206 existing countries or at least 202 excluding North Korea, Cuba, Somalia and Afganisthan and then those numbers will be equal and valid.
      I can honestly say NO samsung and NO Apple will be top 3 nor even top 5 or 10.
      For a very simple reason.
      Chinese comapnies for equal price makes 100% better specced devices.
      7 years of the updates make zero value compared to a better specced device with 2-3 years of updates which is usually enough.
      Especially if you buy on contract lasting 2 years and going to sell your old device when it still have decent value to buy a new one.
      Samsung or Apple trade off is fine but it does not works in every country and not always is worth.

        Ya one can wonder. I'm glad for my S24 Ultra, but don't get this feeling it's something special, same with my former S21U, S22U and S23U.
        Last time e got the special feeling was back in 2018 with my former Huawei Mate 20x and 20X 5g and later on with the MI11 Ultra with a EU rom 👍🏻

        But today we get minor, minor, tiny upgrades on each new release because the lack of competition... So sad and rly boring to.

          The fact that Transsion of all smartphone vendors almost doubled their market share in just a year is very impressive, keep up the bangers!

                    The same thing every year, Samsung leads at the beginning of the year, and in the middle and finally Apple comes back and passes it and so on the infinite cycle
