Marco M, 18 Apr 2024If you think the majority of people opt for the Pro Max vs.... moreYou comparing Sony with apple sales? Sony big model, heck, all model doesn't even sell much. At least until 14 vanilla, there are no small phone with camera that match their "pro" model except for iphone pro against pro max, but until the letdown of relatively small battery and much shorter battery life compared to the pro max.

Reason why XM14 had huge sales boost over 13 is due to camera boost to real flagship level on a small screen. 13 camera was meh and not on the level with big flagship.
You talk about T series camera being good etc, but isn't it still a large phone? I'm talking about small screen having flagship camera...

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2024Market might be changing due to the lack of small screen wi... moreNone of the recent Xiaomi flagships have had lackluster cameras. Of course they're not as good as Ultra model and when looking at combined dxomark scores counting all the additional sensors (apart from macro), but lackluster for the average buyer? No.

I've had people upgrading older from Samsung S-series flagships being blown away by the camera performance of the base T-model from Xiaomi. Let alone their actual flagship series.

Keep in mind that when the average person buys a smartphone there's not much, if any, knowledge about sensor sizes and so on. There's no checking of stats in dxomark. Hence the massive weighting on MP and why samsung still has their BS 200MP camera.

The average user does in best case open the camera app and use the main sensor 99% of the time, and that's not necessarily even the default choice. A lot of the time I see people using snapchat, instagram, facebook etc. to take photos/videos. This results in lower quality cropped photos and/or videoes than the device could offer if using the native camera app and then uploaded to social media. It's not like people don't see it, but practicality wins every time.

A lot more should be done to elevate the performance in 3rd party apps when using the camera.

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2024You also forgot that the Pro Max has 1 significant upgrade ... moreIf you think the majority of people opt for the Pro Max vs. base model due to battery life alone, then I think you are very optimistic. The combination of the biggest screen and best camera setup (which also requires space) is likely the reason.

If apple, or any other manufacturer, had any indication of this, they would simply bulk up the smaller models by 1mm in thickness and fit them with a bigger battery. Sony did, and had a tiny phone with amazing battery life. Not enough people bought it, so it got axed.

Aan2007, 18 Apr 2024it's smaller than any other brand offers and talkin... moreThe point remains. Not enough people buy small phones. If you are one of the few who wants small phones, than that sucks for you. I don't care, because I want big phones. That are actually usable tools.

and talking about ASUS with horrible faulty built quality and no software support, you are funny, even big displays won't save them, nobody buy those phones

Xiaomi 14 sales is 6x that of the 13 vanilla during their launch period. Previously many avoided small phones due to lackluster camera performance.

I hope Xiaomi 14T is a compact phone same like Xiaomi 14

Anonymous, 17 Apr 2024Im hoping vanilla 14T will shrink to the same size as 14. T... moreNope. Just ask Asus and apple. Making small phones is not a good idea.
                    Too few people want them.

I want the opposite. For them to grow it to 6.8-6,9".

Btw, the only reason Xiaomi (and others) offer their entry level flagship smaller than 6.5" is possibly to make it more likely that you spend more and go for the Ultra/Plus/Pro or whatever. To get a usable screen size.

The base model Xiaomi 14 has all the chipset and camera performance I need, and most people need, but the screen is too small. So despite the other aspects of the display being great, I need to go for the Pro, if made available here. Seems like it won't, so then Ultra is the only option.

The iphone 15 Pro Max have a larger market share than the smaller Pro and same goes vs. the base model 15, despite the higher price. And that is apple, who likely have the most conservative consumer group with regards to size.

Fewer would need to opt for the Pro Max if the Pro had the same size of the display as the Pro Max.

Aan2007, 16 Apr 2024right, you can't buy what they don't offer you ... moreYou seem to be a bit confused. Samsung's S-series does not contain any small phones. In fact Samsung has since January 2023 put out 33 smartphones and not one of them has a display size under 6". Not one. And their smallest S24 grew compared to the S23. Can you guess why?

Several of the largest, and even smaller, smartphone companies have offered smaller phones in somewhat recent years. They did not sell very well. Their larger phones did sell much better.

Hence the value for them in offering small phones, in the scale they operate and their desired profit margin, doesn't make sense. The reason it doesn't make sense is simply because not even close to enough people buy these small phones.

You see someone complaining in just about every comment section when new devices pop up. But that person does not reflect the consumer group as a whole. That person is an anomaly in the group.

Asus was the last to drop the small flagship. Despite all the good publicity from pretty much every major techtuber, people still don't want small smartphones. Because they are not as good as the bigger phones and a tiny screen makes for a worse tool.

Simply put. If you take all the top 5 players (Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, TRANSSION [TECNO, Infinix, itel] and Oppo) in this industry and the near 300 smartphones they put out since January 2023 - not a single one has a display size below 6".
Nearly all are between 6.5" and 6.9" in screen size.

Ended up saving for the 14T since my current phone is still alive. All I hope for the 14T is a better selfie camera, proper 4k 60fps, and keeping up what made the 13T something I wanted since last year. It's the perfect gaming + work device where it's performance is just right for a smooth gaming experience while providing solid camera for work.

If I ever just need to buy a phone right now, it'll be either the 13T or if it's in my region, Tecno 30 Pro.

14T will probably be powered by Dimensity 8300 Ultra and have a few upgrades over the 13T such as faster 90W charging, Gorilla Glass Victus, 4k selfie camera and 4k 60fps recording for the main camera.

by your logic considering Samsung S series, smaller phones are extremely successful

Guess they didn't want to overshadow their flagship lineup by offering something like the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

The 14T pro will be similar to the 14 pro, except for the chipsets. Camera setup will be the same.
