But there&... moreYep, for example I put 64Gb of RAM because it's more comfortable for me, I don't stop a lot of apps during work week, like PhpStorm, browsers and docker containers, so, I can start my work really fast every day. And I have some reserve for future.
My next PC will be with 128/196gb of ram maybe :D

But there's also a reason why more people still prefer Windows PC over Mac Pro or Mac Studio when it comes to "big PC". When efficiency doesn't matter, people will keep choose higher power.

And this news about servers too, new tech can help big companies save a lot of money.

As I said, when you use 1 basic app at a time (let's take Instagram as an example), it won't even use half of your RAM's clockspeed.
But when you run multiple heavier apps, this is where faster RAM is useful.
I know some small amount of people that only uses their phone for chat, social media, and YouTube. Faster CPU isn't really necessary for them, let alone faster RAM.

In reality, most people use a lot of performance without thinking about it. So yeah, RAM is one of the important things to push the boundaries on because it is literally used by everything in your phone.

dcdev, 17 Apr 2024Normal people are fine with 640kb of RAMNahh, I mean, he's right tho. In most cases, like basic usage like chat and social media, DDR3 should be enough. It might won't be enough when it comes to heavier task like gaming which requires faster multitasking.
But still, this shouldn't be an excuse for company to use an older technology on their brand new phone. DDR5/LPDDR5 should be minimum for all flagship/high-ends device nowadays (DDR4X/LPDDR4X soon), and DDR4X/LPDDR4X should be minimum for all lower-midranger device nowadays (maybe also standard DDR5/LPDDR5 soon for midrangers? I hope DDR5/LPDDR5 RAM can get cheaper soon when DDR4X/LPDDR5X got released. And oh yeah I'm talking about both phones, tablets, and laptops).
(Except if they use this excuse to give us a better processor on our midranger device, but still I don't think they will go to anything lower than DDR4X/LPDDR4X).

Did you know your phone camera, no matter how impressive it is still >20nm most even are still >50nm? I bet you don't even know the camera sensor is manufactured using silicon and lithography.

It's still slow, like 50% than slower than DDR4-3200.
