Anonymous, 19 Apr 2024Looking at used prices 3 years after launch for S20 Ultra (... moreI’m afraid to tell you the S21 series initially had 3 years of major Android updates but Samsung announced later on that it will be 4 major OS updates, just like the S22. (not referring to security patches)
Your benchmark for depreciation of value should be the S22-23-24 series given how there’s less confusion about their support cycle.
The real change is how the S24 series will be receiving up to 7 years of updates, (until 2030) that means more people down the line will be comparing the S24 lineup side by side with the A series mid rangers, which will increase the value of the S24 series.
If you look at A55/A35 this year you’ll notice that Samsung kept the same 4 years of major updates of the A series. Samsung also stopped selling A55 in the US in fear of cannibalizing the S23 FE & have opted to just ship the A35 instead.
I speculate that Samsung’s strategy is going to be the following:
1- Samsung will have a “Great Reset“ during 2029 when they will departure from the idea of selling A series phones/tablets altogether.
2- They will switch to solely selling the FE & old-refurbished-flagships just like Apple does. (In the name of saving the environment)
3- This means by 2030, Refurbished-Flagships with 3-4 years left will officially replace the A series budget phones.
4- A55 (2024) could be the last A5x. A36 (2025) could be the last A3x. A28 (2026) could be the last A2x. A08s (2027) could be the last A0Xs. A09 (2028) could be the last A0X.
5- We will be left with the A19 (because that’s the one that matches the iPhone 19’s naming scheme) up until 2029 when we will get a clear picture about Samsung’s budget strategy going forward.
Keep in mind that Samsung has introduced the A series strategy back in 2019., meaning 2029 will mark the 10th anniversary.
(But that’s just a theory… 🤣)

Last year I've bought refurbished S21 in excellent condition for $200. I hope A35 has a powerful artifical intellect inside, because anyone who is paying $399 (or even $299) for this pile of S(amsung) doesn't have one.

The problem with Samsung phones is that they depreciate so fast that you can find a refurbished Galaxy s22 ultra for $30 less than this phone, so unless you really want to buy new, $400 is way too expensive for a cheap Samsung like this.

GAMIR3DH, 19 Apr 2024Wait, how can there already be used A55's?Some that came with telco "free" plans (128gb) can get even cheaper.
Some like those cheapo 256gb ones are from users who got bored of the device, change of mind or worst case scenario is that the device has defect. Still waiting patiently for used A55 to pile up. And they will. 😉👍
