Higher energy density and/or faster charging is possible at the cost of safety and longevity. The Chinese manufacturers typically prioritize the former, whereas Apple/Samsung/Google prioritize the latter.

    That said, energy density for Li-ion battery is increasing at the rate of 3-5% per year, so it is possible now to fit 5500mAH in the same size as 5000mAH 2-3 years ago.

        Okay but this actually looks nice.

          What kind of battery chemistry are the Chinese getting their hands on how are we seeing increasingly 5500 mah but under 8mm thickness..

          I'm not complaining I'm just curious
