I drop my motorcycle helmet all the time and it don't break...maybe Samsung will make a phone out of a motorcycle helmets *snicker* I got a carbon fiber helmet too but it ain't DOT approved(it looks kewl but don't protect my noggin) :-(

Aluminum is, in terms of durability or quality, is cheap crap compared to the plastic Samsung uses. Yes, it feels cheap, but stack two or three of it and it can stop a freaking bullet. Not to mention you might as well buy a new phone if you drop an aluminum one. And HTC one is, according to a lot of sites, nearly impossible to fix. Sorry, but Aluminum only wins in looks and feel. Which won't make a difference since a case to protect a delicate phone is not optional. In S4, you can buy a sexy case and still have the brains inside.

While carbon fibre does feel higher quality than polycarb - and certainly looks absolutely awesome - it still feels relatively plastic compared to aluminium and glass. It also isn't a material that looks classy - it is a substance that generally appeals to a younger market due to it being famous in motor racing. Think of the people who put carbon fibre (Whether real or vinyl stick-on) on their every day cars to make them look "cool" - they are generally of a younger mindset and stereotypically aren't the types of people who own huge multinational corporations and have significant power in the business world - these are the people who Samsung should be trying to appeal to with flagship phones in order to stay on top of the market.

Woah.... Even their s4 phone with plastic body priced almost similar with m7 aluminium. Imagine the price they ask for carbon fibre. And isn't Motorola already implemented carbon fibre look on their back cover? Next body might be titanium. Like those stealth bomber planes.

Not to mention that most alumuminim designs are monoshells. Only the backplate is as easy as you describe, in a phone which is not monoshell, and it all depends on the thickness as well.
Cost aside, aluminium is a better (stronger and lighter) material.
Can it really be that sammy fanboys have spent so long defending the inferiour plastic design, that you now actually don't want to see Sammy use better (stronger, stiffer and lighter) materials? They do in other devices. What seems to be the problem?
I'm sure they'll continue to make plastic phones as well.

All the trolls that brag about aluminum are in fact praising a 2 cents product calling it premium. ROTFL :)))

Plastic is a significantly cheaper material in manufacturing. It's also much weaker than aluminium and carbon fiber as well as Kevlar and so on.
