CR: Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max is the best-selling smartphone for Q1 '24

07 May 2024
Three iPhone 15 phones occupy the top three positions.

People are so gullible. The S24 Ultra got 50% more sales than the S23 Ultra last year due to the Galaxy AI, which is also on the S23 phones and will be removed next year on all Samsung models. The S24 Ultra is the weakest Ultra phone in years due to the price hike and the removal of the 10x zoom lens. The increase in the base S24 sales makes sense as that one got significant upgrades and no price hike.

However I don’t know if it hold up as well as the iPhone. The last S22 I had the battery swell up exactly at its 13 month mark. I’m hoping the S24+ I have will be more durable.

Spec is not the determining factor. Guess which iPhone sells the most? The iPhone 6/6 Plus, despite it having bendgate, slow storage, slow A8, and only 1GB of RAM. Heck, the 6 Plus lags on its launch firmware.

To offer the Inferior Exynos in most markets for the non Ultra S24?
To start base S24 from just 128gb UFS 3.1??
To use the same camera hardware for years?
To stick to 25W wired charging?

The best S24 is as usual the Ultra model, and even this one disappointed many people camera wise which was its selling point and only the anti reflective flat display was what people liked the most.

Anonymous, 09 May 2024You completely miss the point, you only look at the surface... moreWhat point did I miss?

Those who want HRR displays have plenty of other options to choose from, many of which being cheaper, so nobody is losing out here. Well other than Apple themselves perhaps, should they loose potential customers over this single one issue. Given given the subject matter of this very article though, that doesn't seem to be a problem for them. Meanwhile, those that can live without it, and who want all that the iPhone does offer them, will evidently just buy an iPhone regardless.

So rather than this stupid 'cope' BS, I simply think people are just getting on with it.

The vanilla models are exactly that, bare minimum. The price is justified by the software and hardware support which the best.

Anonymous, 09 May 2024You completely miss the point, you only look at the surface... moreI agree with the point you are making and Apple should be providing high refresh rate display at $800 price point.

But looking from Apple's perspective, they need to create some differentiation with the Pro models, and in display department, they have chosen to differentiate it in terms of refresh rate, rather than underlying display technology or brightness levels etc. I am sure Apple would have ample marketing research to support that among all dimensions of the display, compromising on the high refresh rate would compromise user experience the least (on a personal level I, for one, would agree with the above).

Not saying this as an Apple supporter/fanboy (I have never purchased any Apple product), but just giving a perspective as regards the rationale of the decision. Of course, as a consumer, I'd prefer that Apple starts selling the Pro model at $800. :)

The point isn't about 120hz. Sure, not everyone cares.

What matters is that such premium features available on all other competitors is being purposely withheld to make artificial differentiation. And then Apple fans go ahead and even defend the choice. Keep coping.

The data obviously shows people like compact phones, considering the position of iPhone 15 and even s24 despite having an exynos soc in most counties.

The data also shows people aren't willing to pay high prices for subpar brand like Xiaomi that have ads, fogging on camera lenses and only 2 or 3 OS updates on even their most premium devices like the 14 ultra.

Note7 owner, 08 May 2024Anyone really surprised by this? I am actually surprised for S24 being in the top 10.

Remember this year, base S24 comes with inferior Exynos in many regions compared to last year where all S23 had Snapdragon.
Also remember S24 starts at just 128gb UFS 3.1.

                              This is really sad tbh.

No surprises on the iphone lineup, except the Iphone 15 plus finally making the top10.

Most people do. My work laptop, my own laptop, my iPad and Amazon tablets and all the tv’s and smart displays in my house are all 60hz. Come to think of it, I have one HRR display in my life, that being my 15 Pro Max.

Do I notice some game changing, life altering difference when I glance from my phone to any other display I have around me, no. Have I sworn to never glance at any of those other displays again because ‘once you 120hz, you can never go back’…also no.
