Too bad we don't have any law makers that are young enough to understand the perils of mass data gathering/ how big tech works or honest enough to be on the taxpayer's side:(

ProMax Ultra, 14 May 2024Bro......just read the comment again,I was trolling.
It&... moreHey, glad to hear that :p
I know and my replies on some other articles would indicate how much I despise the mass data gathering done by the tech companies with the worst offenders being Google and Fb. Google started off as a project for a 3 lettered ag after all and the whole Internet as we know today was invented by the law enforcement so all of that tracking is a given for 99% of consumers.
However, these guys are unfortunately on the 'right' side of the law and nothing can be done about it.
The more immediate threats to the user's personal property comes from the lower level thieves like car jackers and etc. This option is a useful option to tale preventive measures against them as that will secure a bigger hit on the bank account (ex having your brand new vehicle stolen) as opposed to the sold data gathered by the big tech. Sure your.car insurance costs may go up over time depending on the data they gather from driving habits, health insurance etc.
But that comes gradually, can at least be reasoned with.
But losing the brand new 80,000$ + vehicle, no such luck ...

Reality..., 14 May 2024If you have a smartphone, you can be tracked, that's ... moreIf you ask me, it would be better with legislation that prohibited ANYONE from tracking others whereabouts without an explicit and limited consent, and make any implicit 'consent' we can not opt out on illegal. And this would include the OSs from aPple and Google.
I am not against what they are doing with this new idea. I'm just pointing out that it is pretty ironic, that this should come from the worst two private culprits of all in stealing our location-data.
(That NSA and similar Chinese governmental agencies are just as bad, is another story)

It's true that Airtags canbe used to track someone sneakily but there are many things in smartphones as well.
Considering Google & Apple are the biggest source of data collection nowadays & it's been frequently documented that smart devices record everything we do,even private moments/conversations & send that data to company servers and they process that data for their servies or sell to highest bidders.
If they're so interested in privacy, security then why don't they stop or atleast start decreasing such pathetic practices, otherwise everything they do is either because of Govt regulations or money so no need to take their twisted philosophy seriously.

EskeRahn, 14 May 2024I'm confused... is "unwanted tracking" not s... moreIf you have a smartphone, you can be tracked, that's a given.
The difference is that Apple and Google aren't coming to jack your car at 3am with the so called data they have on you.
Some car jacker otoh may slip in an airtag or a tracker into the underside of your vehicle or inside a vehicle trim, track you to your residence and then come during late hours with some buddies to 'relieve' you from your car. This option is to minimise the occurrence of such a thing by alerting the user to the presence of such a tracking device in the first place.
Prevention is better than cure after all...

Si... moreI hope you're trolling cz if you're this dense then I feel sorry for you.
Smartphone cameras and microphones come as a part of the......SMARTPHONE!
Airtags on the other hand is a separate entity that can easily be hidden inside belongins or even a vehicle of someone for the purpose of tracking them with malicious intent. That is why this option is so useful. Even android has a similar option, buried deep inside the settings of course.
There have been many reports of vehicles being tracked without the owner's knowledge by the use of airtags.

Nicolas F, 14 May 2024IIRC, it's about preventing stalkers from using AirTag... moreAnd you always take what the tech giants says for face value, and assume it is totally free of any hidden agenda, right?
Just like when they for 'security reasons' wont let people use third party parts...

I was waiting for this update! Now I can hide from my wife whenever I sneak out at 1AM. She can't find me and if she tries to attach an Airtag on my bag? I would find out so easily after I go out of the house.

Hey Silicon valley wokes, here's good one for ya-
Since smartphone camera canbe used to take photos of any unknown person sneakily then would you please remove all cameras from your phone as well??😂
Same for Mics as well as they can record unknown people's voices/conversations??
What about GPS module,Bluetooth,WiFi?
Heck even any unknown person can trouble anyone by frequent calls/threatenings/spam then why not remove the calling/text functionality from your phones as well😆
What about all these?
When r u gonna take action regarding all these??😂😂
