DeepIn2U, 15 May 2024What? Scary only when massive corporations running the show... moreYes, because those corporations are the ones with massive amounts of data being collected from almost every single person on the planet. But I do admit it's better than the government.

> "policy costs for such a small team can be enormous"

Hence why I even said it could be a one-man project. But people are getting richer. Soon there will be many billionaires and one of them could start an AI venture.

> The FEAR people have is Brainiac or Terminator.

I know, AI taking over the world is definitely the biggest fear. But the initial process of an AI gaining free will and forming its own judgement, I think it's quite beautiful. I would support such a process even if it risks creating a "rogue AI". Honestly, if a computer system was sentient, the most it could do is write complex viruses to take over the world, alongside utilizing CCTV feeds to conduct global surveillance.

First the funds to pay these AI and LLM programmers - a unique and incredible skill-set costs HUGE dollars. Programmers ask for a $150K/Annual starting salary with FULL paid benefits for themselves and spouses! Nothing less. Add a team of about 50 - 100 and your life insurance policy costs for such a small team can be enormous! (the larger the employees an corporation the better the fees.

Corporations are driving the innovation and needs - the thinktanks don't know where it can be useful.

Microsoft does a great jump implementing into Windows 11 and their Office Suite (both on rich-client; local installed software and in cloud M365).
Many other corporations implemented for news translation etc. have a deep dive to know where this is going.

Anyone that has read Superman Origin comics or has seen Man of Steel ....
Think of an advanced drone like Keelix (Man of Steel) and Open.AI and that's what our future will be like. Live sentient personal assistants coded to our uniqueness and personal preferences and nuances able to adapt to situations aiding us - unlike some people in relationship out to get you and undermine you do.

    The FEAR people have is:
    Brainiac or Terminator.
Fun fact Terminator is the more realistic applied version of brainiac - except brainiac left an entire cilivilization to ruin by a dying star only to save itself. It wasn't evil nor benign - just calculated that it could not save an entire planet and feeble in doing so, since the entire specifies had spread to over a 1000 planets should've been fine to keep the species going - yet it lost contact with them.,

    Brain.Ia.C = Brain Interactive Construct.

I use "Cover", which is pretty close to "Guy-US" from microsoft. It speaks like a normal man, with a bit of restraint and void of this suck-up and cheesy tone.

It still can't cook and wash so I'm not replacing the missus just yet.

saj, 14 May 2024this looks scary :D It's only scary when massive corporations are the ones running the show.

But such technology when developed and overseen by a tech startup (or even better, a single person) would be more amazing than scary.

I don't know if OpenAI is really 'open', as in open source, but open source AI would change things. Just imagine, someone with enough knowledge and dedication could create and finetune their own LLM.

Coming at an apple device near you soon...

JustJr, 14 May 2024Whatever OpenAI did to their ChatGPT and nerfed it recently... moreThought I was the only one. Keeps giving wrong answer and when reminded it didn't do what it was asked to do, it apologizes, but then repeat the same thing. Goes on and on. Don't know what's going on in there at Open AI.

Whatever OpenAI did to their ChatGPT and nerfed it recently, I hope they revert it. It went from something useful to something barely helpful outside of trivial stuff even Google can help with.
