Wait, where is the RED one?

    Bye-Sony, 15 May 2024Was ready to pull the trigger .... but still stuck on 12mp ... moreYour S24 Ultra has 10MP at 3x and 50MP at 5x.

    Xperia 1 VI has 12MP from 3.5x to 7x.

Which one is best? Personally I'm not impressed with the 3x on my S23 Ultra. Let's wait and see how the tele zoom performs.

Personally I'm quite tired of weird looking colour from my S23 Ultra (mostly main 200MP camera) so this new Sony could be a killer if 2x zoom is close to S23 Ultra sharpness and the tele zoom performs decent at 5-7x.

Bypassing panel degradation! They launch it for 900 Dollars and they sell like hot cakes...

A missed opportunity that they only used a 1.0 micrometer pixel size sensor for the periscope camera, unless the lens isn't sharp enough.
The periscope camera only gives you 6 megapixel at 240mm, fewer pixels per object than for example an S24 Ultra, Pixel 7 Pro, BBK Oppo X7 Ultra, Galaxy K Zoom or BBK Vivo X100 Ultra.
If they had used a pixel size of 0.56 micrometer instead of 1.0 micrometer, then only the Galaxy K Zoom and Vivo X100 Ultra would have offered more pixels per object.

The effective lens diameter = focal length/f-number of the tele camera should be theoretically about 5.6mm. That's good enough, but not mind-blowing in 2024, the Vivo X100 Ultra has 8.4mm allegedly and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has 7.76mm.
A large effective diameter leads to more light per exposure time from a distant object, it increases the maximum theoretical resolution of the lens regarding distant objects due to diffraction and it gives you blurrier background objects.

Kudos for all the changes and upgrades Sony, mainly the LTPO display and vapor chamber and the aspect ratio. One thing that's still disappointing is the software updates.

JoeJoe, 15 May 2024Where is no SD card, no headphone jack, no buyers? Come and... moreYou have a point. But...
While a Sony wins the "jack and slot" argument nice and easy, its far from being a practical choice for many:-

                  1. Its not available in my country, nor any of its predecessor was (except 1-III long ago). Same across the world in many countries. This essentially ends the argument.

                  2. Even if available, its mighty costly, (although its a much more deserving device than Apples and Samsungs of the world). Its unreasonable for many, this way.

                  3. Just 1 flagship with the conditions met is a severe lack of choice, what if you don't like some other aspect.

For many of us, its more practical to get a midranger like Oneplus Nord CE4 (it has microSD) and then, you fit in a 3.5mm adaptor from a good brand like Jcally or so.
Thus, you almost have it all...

As always with Sony, the price is too high for what it offers.

It's good to know that at least 3 gens of Android update is expected. I don't mind the small chin and forehead bezels, as for me, it's more practical and convenient to handle in landscape orientation. good job Sony. not like the loud camera system and bumps but still produces great photos as always. I just wish they bring it here in the UAE.

DarlingYext, 15 May 2024Yeah, 4K on a display so small may have been useless, but g... moreSony are not a serious phone company. €1,400 for a 1080p panel is disgusting. Sony should've gone with a 1440p panel.

When I complain about no headphone jack or no microSD on phones, people say "get a Sony". It's like, no thanks. Sony don't take their phones seriously so I'm certainly not going to.

[deleted post]"Still, Sony's mature image processing deserves huge praise - everything is rendered in a very natural way, especially the fine, intricate details. There is no over-sharpening, unnaturally popping colors, or unrealistic dynamic range."

Thanks for reading. Hope you also liked that horrible spider shot out of vivo periscope and those iphone like results.
Do you also like those misaligned frames from some shots by honor porsche review?

Stan , 15 May 2024No 4k screen I'm out it is pretty much like all the others "Xperia 1 V, like with all of it'spredecessors run at 1096 x 2560 pixels except for select use cases like playing video in the Sony app or while using the camera software"

Nothing of value has been lost with 4K being gone, and I just saw that ditching 4K display on 1 VI gave it a tremendous battery life boost (it's better than anything flagship out there at the moment)

The review is not up yet, but specs show active usage already.

                                    1 V had 12:24 active usage, 1 VI bumps that to 17:27.

Ditching the 4K display did what I expected, giving the 1 series the battery life of 5 series.

Now if the cooling is also fine then I guess this could be my next phone, still bad that we only get 3 OS and 4 years of security, but at least better than before.

I yawned twice while reading that.

Sony was too coward to say screen is full HD during the video press.
Does not matter if they claim 36h of video playback.
