MindTheGap, 17 May 2024They all do. On this internet world, privacy is just a myth... moreToday, remaining private would mean, to stop using internet, smartphones, cars, e-bikes and slowly even gasoline bikes, computers, TVs, etc. in entirety.
And to stop roaming without a roof on your head, around for the fear of satellites. Also to roam in private lands, because no CCTV's there.
Simply speaking, privacy only has levels now, practically it doesn't exist.
Thank you USA for creating a better world.

Another reason not to own any Apple device.
Many people complain but at least in android you can have some control on your system and have widespread solutions to delete, store or manage your data.

bug or not this is big privacy issue and blatant lie from apple which may trigger many countries privacy redline especially GDPR. Though, expecting american companies actually deleting user data instead of storing it for gov hacking agency is kind of foolish.

Apple have been caught secreting uploading local-only files to the cloud and also scan users photos on the iPhone before. The company is hoarding user data for its AI push

Do you really think Apple cares about your privacy? Remember when Apple hid this hidden poem easteregg in their iCloud agreement...?
"This is the story of a man,
who one day was too busy
or maybe too lazy
that he, too quickly,
clicked on I agree.
What the latter did not forsee,
is that he could never again disagree.
The lesson of this story is
that one shall not concede,
to something one does not read."
They've literally mocked you 9 years ago & you still fall for it! 😂 (try GrapheneOS)

JLC, 16 May 2024If files deleted 4 years ago are still on any Apple servers... morehow is it "BS"?
The way files are deleted is the following: the space in which the photos or data in general is saved is marked as "free space" although still having the data encrypted into the space. Once the "free space" is needed - it's simply overwritten by the new data

If files deleted 4 years ago are still on any Apple servers, it is an intention and cannot be explained with technically not possible.
But let us assume, it was not technically possible to delete them (which is BS), and therefore they had to delete the link to the origin owner, how could they be brought back. This means it was never intended to delete the link.
Again, let us assume, it was not technically possible to delete them (which is BS), why they just did not replace the content with empty files.
The fact that a software bug revealed this problem shows also that the access to the deleted files is not impossible. Which also means, if Apple servers were hacked, your years-ago deleted files could be found anywhere. It is just scary.
The fact that the existence of such files could be kept secret for years (and only revealed through a bug) means that there are potentially also many other illegal things going on at Apple without the public knowing about them. In particular it shows mafia-like structures at Apple: employees are afraid to even disclose illegal activities.

HopeFilledIdiot, 16 May 2024That's some good insight from your work experience. Th... moreThe purpose is the ability to restore supposedly deleted data. Imagine that a user deletes a file and wants to restore it but accidentally empties the trash can, if the server deletes the file, it'll be gone forever. However, if the server simply marks the file for deletion and deletes it after a specified grace period, the user will have an opportunity to contact the service provider and ask for restoration of the file. The grace period shouldn't be longer than 6 months.
