Weekly poll results: the Google Pixel 8a is too expensive right now

19 May 2024
Right now, people would rather get the Pixel 8 instead. This price will start falling in the coming months, of course, so attitudes will change.

I am on my Pixel 2 for 7th year. Battery replaced twice. However I feel it's time to upgrade. The phone works fine, will keep it as backup.

I'm on my Pixel 6a and for my light use on the go it is plenty fine.
A bit of Twitter/Discord/Whatsapp with Youtube in the back is all I do on regular basis.

Occasionally I log onto Genshin Impact if I cant bring a laptop or console for just little daily quests. It doesnt run well, but good enough to maintain the resource loop.

Gonna upgrade to Pixel 10/10a maybe, if the TSMC Tensors are that much better than Tensor4

The only reason I'm even interested in this phone is because the screen is slightly smaller. I really just want a decent 200 dollar phone that isn't the size of a laptop. That would be great.

In US you guys are just getting iPhone, Samsung, Pixel with another companies with much lower sales like OnePlus, Sony, Motorola, TCL, and many other less known brands and carrier-branded phone. While here, we're getting iPhone, Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi, Infinix, Tecno, Itel, ZTE, not to mention some less relevant brand like Sharp and Nokia.
Wait, I don't remember when I make fun of you guys. You might mistaken me with someone else that actually make fun of you guys.

And btw I live in Indonesia, and Pixel isn't available there lol.

Bought one with trade in, so in my country is 549 euros, trading a redmi 12c nets me 198 euros...i couldnt resist for 351 euros as i have a spare new 12c from a Xiaomi promo (not even opened).
I say with trade in is a steal.
Later on around 9 launch should get discounted, but biggest discounts are found in USA mostly, so pretty Happy with my purchase.

Maybe the point of releasing the a series device late is to upsell the aging base and pro models, esp the base model.

It is my understanding that the availability of Pixel devices has increased significantly over time as demand increases. By the way, the price of the regular Pixel 8 with 128 GB is $699.95 and currently the discounts are no longer so attractive. Even with the Pixel 8a's downgrades, I'd rather pay more money for more storage, but I'm completely broke so I'll settle for 128GB.

YUKI93, 19 May 2024I think Google should adopt Sony's smartphone release ... moreGoogle should launch the Pro, Vanilla and A at the same time that way when they start discounting them they can all be discounted at the same time.....

Launching Pro before Vanilla could create the same problem you have now with the Vanilla and A.

The Pixels 3a and 4a 4G used the Snapdragon 670 and 730G respectively, had excellent performance when they launched, and are smooth as butter in 2024. I don't mind keeping my mobile device for 7+ years. That would allow me to save money to spend on video games or on the Disney membership to continue watching The Owl House and Amphibia xD

But the Google Pixel is Android as Google intended, both in hardware and software, and you also get Android straight from the source. Pixel devices are always the first to receive new updates and features for the new Android.

Dude, these devices are already overpriced and for $559.95 you get 256GB on the Pixel 8a. The regular Pixel 8 with 128GB, even with discounts, is still overpriced, but it's a no-brainer since it's Google's flagship alongside the 8 Pro.

Its pricey but if you want it now trade in is your best option, Google is giving £257 for 6a... brings the 8a price down to £242

These diehard Pixel fangirls have no idea that even Google employees outside the US also suffer with region locking. Which prolly explains why Android is getting messier each update. And becoming iphone-ier lol.

Majority of people holds their phone for at least 3 years anyways. Well, except if you want to hold your phone for more than 4 years then more might be better (Even though I'm not really sure this Tensor G3 can maintain it's performance for more than that).
