Moto G85 stops by Geekbench with Snapdragon 4 Gen 3 SoC, 8GB of RAM

That chip hasn't been announced yet, intriguingly.

They should have went for dimensity 7200

RaviSS, 17 May 2024Hope that it is a real upgrade, to not only 4 gen 1, but al... moreI hope so. Hopefully Adreno 619 on 4 gen 3 will have a clock speed higher than 840MHz (on 695) otherwise it will be a disappointment

Smartphone manufacturers literally aren't even trying anymore.

After 3 years of 695, instead of going up into the 7 series with a 7s Gen 2 or a 782G Moto go down to a 4 series chip.

But Lenovo are in a similar situation to Sony, it doesn't matter how terrible their phones are, the unsuccessful mobile division can be carried by the successful divisions so for Lenovo laptops for example or for Sony the PlayStation.

However, she does care a lot about the camera of the phone and battery life.

And so far, Motorola seems to be the only one who gives an 1/1.52 Sensor with OIS in their budget phones, which is similar than what is inside the Galaxy S24. (As well as one of the view ones who give autofocus to their ultrawides).

Not every phone to release is destined to be focused on your preferences, there are other types of people as well.

Anonymous, 17 May 2024That's it, I will never even touch a motorola again, o... moreI agree with you that we should see sizeable performance upgrades each generation. But I think you were expecting too much. Since Edge 50 fusion, which sits above the G85, gets only SD 6 Gen 1, there was simply no way that G85 was gonna get a 7 series processor. SD 6 Gen 1 was the maximum it could have got (and should have got, I agree).

But it is also okay if there are incremental upgrades across the board (and strictly no downgrade in any component), if the price could be reduced a bit. In the end, it all comes down to the value-for-money aspect for me.

Atm, the CPU does seem to be a small upgrade compared to 695 (5-7% higher peak performance). As long as the GPU also gets a similar performance boost, I can live with it, as long as the price is right.

That's it, I will never even touch a motorola again, or even look at one, G100 is the last Motorola I ever use.
Now they've really started to DOWNGRADE chips every year! Can you imagine? How on earth is everyone ok with this??
I was really hoping G85 gets at least a 7 plus gen 2 or at the very least a 7s gen 2 without dropping the microSD card/headphone jack. But NO! Now going all the way back to 4 series!

And people here justifying 4 gen 3 by saying it's just like 695. I mean as buyers have your standards have dropped really that low? You're happy as long as it has SAME performance every year? Not even some upgrade? Imagine "upgrading" a really old I7 with a new pentium because "they have same performance" lol.

The difference may come from cortex architecture or some "AI" shenanigans I guess?

YUKI93, 17 May 20244 Gen 1 is 695 renamed. 4 Gen 2 is the 4nm fabrication vers... moreWell we know from the listing that it has 4 performance cores at 2.3 Ghz and 4 small cores at 2 Ghz. In terms of architecture, it is likely to be either A78/A55, or A715/A510. I think the former is more likely. But it doesn't really make much of a difference. Either way it will be slightly faster than SD695.

GPU is the big question mark. 4 Gen 2 GPU was pretty bad (it had half of the performance of 695). I hope Qualcomm course corrects this time and provides a slightly better GPU than 695.

In terms of fabrication process, it would be too optimistic to hope for TSMC 4nm, but I hope they at least use the Samsung 4LPP node (used in Tensor G3 and Exynos 1480). 4 Gen2, 6 Gen 1 and 7s Gen 2 were all based on the Samsung 4LPE node, which was (very slightly) less efficient than TSMC 6nm (N6). 4LPP should be (very slightly) more efficient than N6.

It is either 698 or 4 Gen 3

Kirisame, 17 May 2024The real upgrade of snap 4 gen 1. Snap 4 gen 2 gpu is too weak Hope that it is a real upgrade, to not only 4 gen 1, but also 695 (4 gen 1 was an underclocked 695) in all aspects, including GPU.

The less said about the GPU of 4 gen 2, the better. I don't know what the hell Qualcomm was thinking

Trash performance by Qualcomm. They are resting on their laurels. They should take the strategy of providing similar performance like their flagship SoCs on their low end series as well so that people don't get trash experience and then move on to iPhones.

Dimensity 7025(G64) has better Score compare to 4 Gen 3

Those benchmark scores are awfully similar to 695 🫢

Heard it was 695 renamed. This SoC since should had this name since day 1 as it lack various features to be a 6-series. We are also looking to 680 and 685. 6gen1 is newest and lastest but since it was using Samsung 4nm nodes, it suffer from overheat, like the 7gen1. 6-series is L and are bringing in the least value to Snapdragon product line and to the consumers.

so qualcomm decided to not abolish the 4G lineup, but it looks like its still using A78, quite old technology but makes the 4G no longer used by entry level chipset

                                  G84 has 1/1.56" camera.
I bet it is gonna be nerfed to 1/2" or 1/2.76"

I doubt it is armv9. Probably another 695 rebrand like 4g1/4g2
