And also since Edge 50 fusion exists at relatively low price, Motorola would have to make G85 even cheaper and that would mean differentiating on a few other features apart from processor. And I would rather have the 'edge display' feature removed than, say, cameras compromised.

When Motorola ... moreYou final paragraph, yes I think we all could have hoped for this, although I doubt they would let the upper G model have a better chipset than the Edge Fusion model, even if it is the entry model of the edge series.

Could be that they just want to simplify costs and get economies of scale to reuse the curved glass for the G85 rather than use flat glass. Also it might be a way to soften the chipset blow by saying it has a premium edge screen design.

Either way the Edge 50 Fusion is the better phone so why bother with the G85 with a SD 4 gen 3?

Raghuvarv, 25 May 2024I am really hoping those renders are false, and that the G8... moreSame here. And I highly doubt these renders. When Motorola explicitly has an 'Edge' series, with its most prominent feature a curved screen, and a G series whose USP is good value with a budget no-nonsense design, I see little point in blurring this distinction from the company's viewpoint.

I personally don't like curved screen for multiple reasons. It hampers usability (false touches), increases risk of screen breaking, and screws up the phone dimensions (makes it too tall for my preference). Not to mention it increases the cost of the phone.

In fact, at the price point of Edge 50 fusion, I would have preferred a phone with flat display and the cost savings could have been directed towards Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. Now, that would have been the ideal budget phone!

I am really hoping those renders are false, and that the G85 will follow the form factor of its predecessor.

                      But if they are legitimate...

SD 4 Gen 3 I was willing to tolerate. But a curved OLED display? Really, Motorola? Really? You could have made the device cheaper by putting a flat display on it. Or even retained the same price and put a more powerful SOC on it, like the SD 6.

                      On another note:
I avoided the G84 with a passion. It is a fantastic device with a lot of positives. But the low PWM dimmimg OLED display was inexcusable (especially for a migraine sufferer such as myself).

If you're going to make a device that is supposed to be "budget", you could at least opt for an LCD panel with no PWM and make it even cheaper, or at least spend the extra money on an LED - that is flat and not curved - and that has PWM over 700 Hz.

To heck with it. I'll consider other options for an upgrade this year of these turn out to be legitimate.

Their feature set is priced at least $100 over everyone else in the product line... many many options with similar feature sets, what is the benefit to motorola ? Name recognition?
