First evidence that the Tensor G5 will be fabbed by TSMC uncovered

The Tensor G4, coming later this year, might be the last Tensor to be designed and made by Samsung.

This should've been Tensor G1, with Google sticking with Snapdragon until the TSMC chip was ready. No point in going in-house if it's to plague users with sub-par performance and awful battery life for 4 releases straight.

    Google uses Samsung modems though...will they be purchasing an external modem from them?

    Or (and there's zero chance of this happening) they get a Qualcomm modem? I'd be thrilled if they could pair a QC modem with a TSMC Tensor.

            Own design + tsmc

            Easily gonna be more expensive than A and Snapdragon 8 be ause of much lower volume and inability to bargain good prices.

            Expect 10 Pro XL to be over $1300

                Anton .el PAPI., 27 May 2024I want the cocaine you put inExynos were worse than snapdragon and inefficient, also Samsung fabbed snapdragon 888 and gen 1 which were worse in efficiency. But they weren't as abysmal as the Tensor chips. The fact that Tensor 3 performs like a 888 is no fault other than google's and switching over to TSMC won't fix it.

                Google has a history of abandoning projects like glass, stadia, starting a million chat softwares and abandoning them: hangout, allo, wave. Nexus devices were fast and stable but once Google starting taking more control with the release of pixels even in the early days when they used snapdragons the software stability was problematic.

                Yeah, I'm smoking not those google fan boys on full copium.

                    Well, I guess this was a good plan: stick with Samsung for a few years and learn from them chip design, then move the production to the more efficient node when you can design it yourself. Let's see how this pans out.

                        [deleted post]Tensor will always be Tensor, Exynos chips were never as bad as those google designed Tensor chips. So watch google mess up even with TSMC fabs.
