RaviSS, 30 May 2024Would have agreed with your comment, but in this instance, ... moreLook back at their Mali-G77 to Mali-G78. Similar core count increase, from a maximum of 16 cores to 24. Core features are nearly identical between the two but still, taking the fabrication upgrade aside, a Mali-G78 MP14 might still occupy the same space as a Mali-G77 MP12. They might employ a similar strategy in the next generation by relying on the fabrication upgrade, after all ARM said that their next designs are tailored for 3nm. An Immortalis-MP18 maybe a sweet spot.

Yeah like epic games is going to listen . Android is hot mess of an operating system . I think cloud gaming will become more popular before conventional unreal engine games become popular on Android . There's also a xbox handheld coming this year , RIP Android gaming

IpsDisplay, 30 May 2024This year flagships socs really really matter
Like they ... moreWould have agreed with your comment, but in this instance, when you look closely and read between the lines, the improvements due to architectural changes are not impressive.
Had the comparison between G925 and its predecessor been like-for-like (i.e. same number of cores), it would have been really fantastic! But ARM has chosen to compare 14 core G925 with 12 core G720.
So the claimed performance improvement of 37% goes down to 17.4% if you consider per core improvement. Now, we don't know how much of this is due to increase in frequency, so iso-frequency performance improvement should be lower.
Similar analysis can be done for the performance efficiency claim of 30%. Hypothetically, if you had a 14 core G720, it would be around 15% more efficient than a 12 core G720 for the same performance (more no. of cores allows same performance to be reached with lower frequencies, thus improving performance/watt). Further the new node N3E enables another 15% lower power consumption as compared to N4P. Thus there is barely any improvement in the power efficiency due to architectural changes.

So it means the new Dimensity 9400 is Immortalis 925, Dimensity 8400 or 7400 is Immortalis 725, and Dimensity 6400 is Immortalis 625.

For the prime CPU core, that's a hefty jump lol. From x4 to x925. They want to keep the naming schemes similar for each segment. For flagship soc it's 925 and for high end 725.

This year flagships socs really really matter
Like they are some legit upgrades this time around
Whether it's Nuvia from Qualcomm or whatever arms has here
I'm legit excited for this generation of flagship socs
Not the typical 10% improvement BS we looking at some brand new architecture and stuff
