Oneplus, where Carl made his name, started as a subbrand of Oppo. Carl also came out with the Nord lineup which some people regard as a cheapee subbrand for Oneplus.

Honestly, Nothing as a company has some terrible strategies as well as a few really good ones. A very clear rule in how to avoid creating confusion for the user is to only have one brand, and to never rebadge phones. You should also have a fairly small set of phone models every year. Additionally, just be more price competitive.
Nothing should've realistically done this:
Nothing Phone 2:

I'm pretty sure if it is a CMF phone, it'll be priced pretty low considering the direction they are in. I even heard a leaked CMF phone will be priced under $150, but I don't want to have hopes on rumours
