You are wrong, that's EXACTLY how benchmarks work. You take the hardware, compare it to other hardware under the same circumstances (power limits, ambient temperature, workloads, etc.) and draw numbers on how good one item compares to the other under the same conditions. Even Apple's own "GPU performance VS. power" graph shown on this very post uses the same methodology of measuring the iPad's "performance" and show it as a selling point to convince buyers.

"They clearly made a mistake on core number when putting out advertisement about it. "
In the US, under most circumstances you have to prove that there is "intent to defraud" before you can start smacking your lips about getting that fantastic $7.74 or whatever token class action payout moolah as an individual affected customer (the lawyers though will make bank of 6~7 figure payouts, but that's the price of victory yaaay...). Other jurisdictions (EU, Aus, UK) might not care if engineering failed to communicate with the marketing team and Apple pushed out wrong numbers to the public, sold the devices and then corrected it when it was called out. It's just false advertising, in many non backward places in this world.

Their in-house performance claims are opaque when it comes to real numbers that you can track for concrete values, since percentages can be skewed more easily by altering just a few variables tucked into *minute postscripts than pure and simple numbers (which Apple will NOT publish). But common sense will tell you that 9 cores are not the same as 10 cores. Customers who purchased looking at those tech specs listed on Apple's site have found out later that their product is inferior than what was advertised. That's the issue that Apple is trying to dance around using percentage based ratios instead of actual numbers against much older A14 based iPads (lol), but it's not a legal defense and they know it.

Anonymous, 04 Jun 2024Pure unadulterated BS from you and Apple, in a weak attempt... moreIf performance is truly less than what they claimed in the announcement, then that is another matter worth discussing. I'm just saying, number of cores isn't really relevant as performance benchmarks means everything.

You can't simply compare one device to another based on core count. That isn't how this works. They clearly made a mistake on core number when putting out advertisement about it. Now, if they are lying about performance claims, that is obviously bad. I don't believe that is what is happening here?

Do you now how this entire issue came to light? It was only when reddit and youtube users started raising questions about how this sham iPad (10 minus 1 core GPU) was slower in benchmarks than the iPad Pro (full 10 cores) which was supposed to be the SAME chip as per Apple's then claims. Don't take my word for it, look it up and see the proof for yourself. See if Apple's Feelings-Per-Second(tm) abstract "performance ratios" compared to undisclosed "presumable" devices makes sense or not, or maybe you cannot see the difference if it smacked you in the face and for that I pity you. But people who purchased these devices under false marketing claims have a locus standi. So regardless of how you or I feel about this, we now we wait and watch how big this blooper is gonna become when the wheels hit the ground.

I expected better from this place rather than parroting Apple's spin, especially the groundless opinionated last sentence in this blog post is pretty sad journalism. Whatever, facts don't get changed by spin.

"So what if I sold you just 9 apples in this bag, when I actually advertised it as 10 apples per bag? 9 apples from Apple (2024) tastes just as good as 10 APpLeS from APPLE (2022)."

That's not how it works sweaty. If you give false advertisements and sell your junk, then you get taken to court. Ask Nvidia how much their "3.5 GB" costed them. But I guess Apple fangurls still won't care that they got duped by fruit daddy.
