Anonymous, 07 Jun 2024Gsmarena, when testing the tele performance, make sure that... moreAnd gsmarena, when you compare it with the Pixel 8 Pro or Pixel 7 Pro, which currently seem to have one of the best tele capabilities on the market, you also should compare it with a dedicated Bayer sensor camera or compare dng files. Smartphones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, S23 Ultra or Xiaomi 14 Ultra produce a lot of machine learning fake detail when you zoom (for example a 30x S23 Ultra photo of a distant sign can contain the word "Aepair" instead of "Repair"). Most reviewers just look at the apparent sharpness of an image, but forget to check which image actually delivers more true(!) detail / more true information.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2024Gsmarena, when testing the tele performance, make sure that... moreIn a word, who cares? You are using Pixel then you want to test that phone, right? What if 100 people using different phones then they ask the same questions? Pixel is a garbage phone, so just don't take it to the test list.

Gsmarena, when testing the tele performance, make sure that it doesn't use pixel binning. So either take 200 megapixel full resolution photos or take photos at at least 340mm because a 340mm crop from 85mm has 12.5 effective megapixel. At 230mm, the Vivo X100 Ultra could possibly use 4-1 pixel binning and then you would only get 6.8 megapixel at 230mm. So, testing the camera at 230mm (10x) may not use the full resolution of the sensor.
Gsmarena, also please compare the camera with the Pixel 8 Pro or Pixel 7 Pro at 360mm + Night Sight in good light conditions. I tested that my Pixel 7 Pro outperforms the S23 Ultra at 360mm+Night Sight in a store and the magazine Computerbild showed that the Pixel 8 Pro outperforms the Xiaomi 14 Ultra at high zoom settings.

Archeoptyrex, 06 Jun 2024Only 3.7 optical zoom?? Why downgrade of zoom, even older s... moreThose 10x cameras on older flagships become borderline unusable in low light, just saying. My S23 Ultra can take nice-looking photos as long as I use GCAM (The stock camera processing is awful), but even that can't save its 10x telephoto camera from going muddy in less-than-optimal lighting conditions.

WhoCaresTM, 06 Jun 2024Compare the jittery video and different cokors across lense... moreFrom what I have seen, colours don't even shift much on X100 Ultra's camera while shooting photos or videos and switching lenses (The only company that still does this is Huawei - I don't think they can synchronise the colour rendition unless they start using an RYYB sensor for all cameras).
I would gladly take phones that consistently take good photos over those that take bad ones *cough* Galaxy S Series *cough cough*, it sucks that Vivo isn't releasing their flagships worldwide apart from India though.

WhoCaresTM, 06 Jun 2024Compare the jittery video and different cokors across lense... more>"omg the color shifted slightly when I switched cameras, horrible camera"
Literally who cares? Acting as if Samsung's colors don't shift and even iPhones do. Online samples can only tell you so much, I have access to flagships from both companies and both have bad to horrible color shifting at times. Besides, I'd rather have slight changes in color if it meant I have amazing global qualities like detail, exposure etc.
"Horrible OS"
Personal preference, you do you. You might not like it but damn, to hate on it like this, what do you even use? I've used phones from HTC, Realme, Oppo, Samsung, Apple, LG and Xiaomi and really, it all feels the same, they're basically doing the same thing. How you even think this is horrible is beyond me.
>"Compare the 2-3 years of updates"
bro come on, I truly do not care. People act like updates to a phone are some revolutionary thing nowadays, they aren't even evolutionary things. These android updates nowadays would be counted as 14.0.0b back in the day. They're super minor. Only thing that matters is update speed and mostly to stabilize the phone 1-2 months after its launch.
If you want long updates, then sure, buy an iPhone or a Pixel. Different phones are made to cater to different audiences. Do you just want every phone to be the same or something? Like seriously? You want every phone to look and feel the same? Because that's what Samsung, Apple and Google are doing. I am not defending this phone's lack of updates, it's not good that this phone isn't getting more but 3-4 years is more than enough. I use a phone for 2-3 years at best so I don't care and most people who'll buy this phone won't either. What's your point man?
>"Compare the bad battery life despite a large battery. Yikes"
The X100 Pro already beats the S24 Ultra comfortably in most tests. The X100 Ultra has 100 mah larger battery though I think the 1440p screen would hamper its battery life. Regardless, the best that android has to offer is beaten by the X100 Pro and Oneplus 12. I truly don't get your point. Look at Phonebuff, Technick and even GSMarena's battery life tests.
Imagine being this stuck up over such minor issues, the jitter and color shifts are mostly due to the phone being new and most reviewers releasing videos ASAP. Look at Techtablets's Oppo Find X7 Ultra shootout, the first one. It looked horrible. Within 1-2 months that phone changed everything. The Vivo X100 Ultra already takes great shots, so technically it's better than what the Oppo's doing, even though all three lenses here are new to Vivo, compared to Oppo having 1 common sensor in the 3x telephoto IMX890. If you want to see how good Vivo's optimization is, look at The Tech Phenomena's X100 Pro vs iPhone video comparison, it's shockingly good. The bad thing is the oversharpening at certain times, otherwise it's 90-95% there.
Imagine trying to defend horrible phone practices and act like it's good, yikes. Your intelligence is no higher than my 2 year old brother who can barely speak and I'm pretty sure even he can understand that you don't just have to hate something you don't agree with. Manchildren online and irl ruining everything fr

origin OS is very good, samsung can't even get their face unlock to work properly or the option to keep screen ON while looking at it
samsung can offer more updates because they release 99% the same phone every year, is understandable, 1 update fits all
x100 pro is rated higher than s24 ultra and all battery drain tests i've seen on youtube vivo has better battery life than samsung so what exactly are you talking about??

what shortcut do you need for google pay?you just put the phone on the POS and pays automatically.
most apps can be uninstalled or debloated , you can find scripts on XDA.
find my device or remote wiping are working perfectly fine, you just need to enable it in settings, have a vivo account and access it on find.vivo.com.cn

I have it and if anyone's interested, here's the only drawbacks I found so far:
-you can use Google wallet but the phone won't let you use the double-press the power button shortcut unless your card is bound to vivo pay
-the phone is registered to your vivo account, however, your nickname is set in Chinese and you cannot change any attribute like gender or age
-satellite connectivity is china only
-a lot of the apps have a fair amount of Chinese script in them, requiring you to either give up or translate them manually to get somewhere
-find my device or remote wiping is not available
-AI copilot is useless for non-Chinese speaker and I'd recommend chatgpt anyways
-AI wallpaper generation doesn't work
-many useful NFC portings like public transport cards or gate cards are behind a wall of Chinese, I'm trying to get through but maybe that function is unavailable as well
-some translations are odd to say the least and the words often don't fit in their box, leaving you wondering what the full caption is
-special music display effects when the phone is locked are only available for the native music player
-most news/suggestions are obviously for people that live in china
However, all Google apps function normally, the phone is super fast, has great options for battery life enhancements by controlling app drain. And the camera is something to sing about.
Also, it rattles when you shake it but I guess that's the camera gimbal mechanism.
