iOS 18 is official with Apple Intelligence, focus on customization

Besides the fact that you can finally put your widgets where and how you want it is fine. This one was seriously overdue compared to Android. The rest of the customisation stuff seems to be really lame. Wow, you can now change the colour. I don't care for that but not being able to completely change the look of any widget is still something I miss. The Apple widgets are soo old and boring. The menu didn't change either nor did the way you can swipe. It's still the same old boring (and not so crystal clear) menu, it's still only swipe to the right, there's still an inconsistency throughout the navigation logic (agreed, you also see this in android skins). The dreadful keyboard has not changed either with still two to three times required to do the same thing in one click on the native Android keyboard (and that is not even the best one around). The integration of third party keyboards still sucks big time. To me it's merely a lightweight cosmetic change that only touches the surface. Nothing skin-deep. I'm not bashing here, just summing up what is still not as good as it could be and these are in some cases core functionalities or activities that you really miss when you are also used to handle Android devices. Both platforms have their plus'es and minus'es. If they look at each other (and they do) then they should focus more on getting the basics done before throwing yet another gimmick called AI into the marketing machine to sell expensive crap (both platforms here, again no bashing at Apple or Android.

    If Apple too has AI now, what reason is there to say that a Google Pixel is better or why would someone go over to Samsung? The S24 Ultra's main thing was AI and now Apple has it too, yikes man. I just knew it, everyone's gonna get it and these phones are gonna rot. Without significant hardware or software changes, there's no point in buying the new phones. Apple knows this and tries to keep things fresh each year, 12 series being their weakest years. Samsung needs to just keep doing what they did before, like till the Note20 Ultra Samsung OWNED Apple, now? Nope.

      Anonymous, 12 Jun 2024It's really ridiculous that Samsung's only compac... moreiPhone SE or any other new iPhone is more expensive than a S23 vanilla or S24 vanilla here in Brazil, nowadays you can get a S23 256GB for less than U$500, new with 25W charger included in the box, for that price you can get only really outdated iPhones.
      I paid exactly U$550 on my new S23+ 256GB, charger included in the box and got a bundled Galaxy Watch4 with it, which I sold.
      iPhones here are simply the worst value for money there is, Samsung's launches at iPhone prices, but a couple of months from launch the price drops a lot, after a year, it's worth half the launch price, which is great and that's how I got my good S23+, iPhones prices are always high, it's insane that iPhone 13 128GB is more expensive than a S23 512GB here.

The keyboard is one of the areas where word prediction and auto correct can benefit significantly from a well implemented AI. But thensad thing is , I recall my old candybar Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones with their T9 dictionary had better text prediction than these AI infused apple and androids today.
            If anything the text prediction has become dumber and more trigger happy in all the wrong ways. Still can't decide correctly when to use if and of etc.

            All of that while the AI ppl.focus on absolutely pointless things like generative emojis and AI replies to emails (who even does that??) 😑

              Apple dropped the ball by including this AI nonsense.

              I hope they give us an option to NOT download any of the features when upgrading to iOS 18 for those who don't want AI on their phone. Make it an optional download so we can save data and space on the internal memory.

              Cz i highly doubt that "opting out" would keep their prying eyes away from our data and usage patterns, especially since no payment is involved with the Open AI partnership!

                      What nonsense you are talking about? Apple sold last year way more iPhones than recent years and that's why they were able to outsell Samsung for the whole year.

                        Well all this mess and fuss around AI brought nothing interesting worth whether is Samsung brand, Motorola brand, Huawei, Xiaomi etc.
                        Apple wont be different i think.

                            And yeah for sure you haven't done your study. That's not a forte for the fanbase you belong to. Apple's cell phone market share declined significantly since last year. All-time high active devices don't present the newer user counts. All models in the last two years sold marginally low compared to previous years. Today's new HarmonyOS surpassed iOS in China. Android market share has increased. Still living in the stone age?

If I was in Indonesia I would just give my money to Sharp. The 6 Gen 1 is more than enough, the cameras, screens and software on Sharp devices are incredible. I didn't know about the iQOO Z9X, it looks very good but personally I would rule it out due to its enormous size. GSMArena doesn't review Sharp devices and that's depressing.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 was my favorite. In my opinion, the Pixel's cameras are better than the iPhone's, but the Pixel's high prices will probably make your friends avoid it altogether. The worst thing is that Samsung is more expensive than the Pixel but Samsung's cameras, software and designs are horrible.

                                    Well they outsold Samsung last year by clear margin so losing some sales this year doesn't mean they do bad 😉 they also have a very good chance to outsell Samsung again this year.
