It’s always better to under promise and over deliver which is what Apple’s been doing when it comes to these iOS updates.

Anonymous, 12 Jun 2024People say new Apple Silicon are the future. Sure, but not ... moreThe reason I’ve personally preferred using MacBooks was their seamless integration with iPhone and iPad.

The other thing that’s nice about having a powerful machine is that your device will still run smoothly for many years and after many OS upgrades.

This is precisely my beef with Apple: their software support on MacOS is too short now and their basic specs insufficient. Don’t tell me that you’re gonna have fun in five years on 8GB of RAM and a 256GB hard drive.

I’ve since switched over to Windows because of this. Couldn’t justify the extra cost anymore.

yikes, 12 Jun 2024Imagine spending all that on a mac pro in 2019 and its ALRE... moreAgreed! While their support cycle for iPhones has been good, it has been rather poor for their MacBooks, especially as of late.

If I remember correctly, my old 2012 MacBook Pro hasn’t received any updates for almost two years now. It still works fine, just hasn’t received any security updates. This means the OS and certain pre-installed apps like Safari and Mail are becoming more vulnerable over time while many third-party apps are/will soon be unsupported (like Google Drive).

10-year support for a rather expensive and powerful computer should be a minimum, IMO. This is what my 2012 MacBook received, so I’m not gonna complain too much.

People say new Apple Silicon are the future. Sure, but not all apps work wonders on them, only those written for ARM. Majority of programs are still written for x86/x64 and will be slow on Macs because they need to be "translated" in real-time.

And yes, battery life is awesome on Macs, I don't see why that matters when as soon as you get somewhere, you plug the charger anyway. For basic tasks on battery, any Windows business oriented laptop will be good like Macbooks. You won't run CAD software on any of them at the coffee shop.

iOS being supported for over 6 years per device and you're here suggesting Apple is FORCING people to upgrade because some people can't get from iOS 17 to 18?

Stick with your Android and one major OS update, bro.

These tables are hilarious. You could've chosen literally any other away to indicate which devices are keeping/losing support, and you chose this mess.

                              Example
Y Axis: Device Type (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch)
                              X Axis: Device Generation

Then populate the matrix with checkmarks to indicate continued support for iOS 18, or an X to indicate no support for iOS 18.

This kind of "aggressive" marketing is ONE of the reasons that I refuse to buy anything Apple! Forcing/coercing end-users to buy a NEW phone whenever Apple wants users to upgrade and at $1000 ea ++ is unacceptable.
