17 June 2024
This comes with Pixel Camera v9.4 and mostly adapts features from the Pixel 8 Pro for use on the older models.

I waited too long for this option, and it turns out that you can only change the lens manually in photo mode, not video mode! Waste of time!

MakeMotoBetterAgain, 17 Jun 2024pixel 5 is left out...That's history (for Google)

It seems to me Pixels are now divided in ages.

      OG series (Pixel 1-4)
      Tensor series (Pixel 6-9)
      ???? series (Pixel 10- onwards)

Pixel 5 was made of leftover parts. It was neither a proper Pixel a nor a flagship one. It was a "middle of the road" device while Google reorganized their team to work on Tensor and beyond.

Nowadays, get a Pixel 7 or newer.

Anton .el PAPI., 17 Jun 2024obvious! Google already wants you to buy a pixel 8 proOr a pixel 6 like I just did to replace my 4a lol. Paid less than for the 4a from years ago. I assume that these camera upgrades announcements are for a younger social media crowd which is fine. I personally prefer to spend that type of $ (new 2024 flagship prices) on a good OLED TV or a high end video card. To many better and cheaper options than phones for anyone into photography, that's just me. To each his own, I overspend on PC parts which is no different.

Manual lens selection is nearly a useless feature for the Pixel 7 Pro.

The 7 Pro actually has 5(!) cameras (five different fields of view with 12 megapixel) due to analog pixel binning: 13.4mm, 24mm(binning), 48mm, 116.5mm(binning), 233mm (whereas the 6 Pro always uses binning and only has three). And the manual lens selection doesn't let you choose the 233mm and 48mm cameras.

So, manual lens selection prevents the camera app from using a crop from the main camera instead of using the periscope camera in low light conditions (in contrast to the 6 Pro, the 7 Pro nearly always chooses the periscope camera, furthermore, already without this "feature" you could force the periscope camera by zooming more), but it doesn't avoid that the camera app uses a crop from the 116.5mm camera instead of using the 233mm camera in low light conditions (this happens always), so this feature is nearly useless for 7 Pro users!
And in contrast to the Pixel 8 Pro, you can't save 50 megapixel 116.5mm photos, which would nearly solve this issue. So, really not useful. Even manual focus would be more useful.

When will this update come? It still hasn't come to my Google Pixel 7 Pro.

                            pixel 5 is left out...
