Anonymous, 18 Jun 2024It looks like I confused it with ov8856From what I could find online, the OV08D10 seems to be a newer sensor with the same general specifications as the OV8856, which is from 2015. The problem with this is that a 1/4.0"-type sensor is just far too small to be useful on today's phones, and the only use for this sensor that I can see is on sub-$150 phones to use as a selfie camera or an ultrawide. Anything above that value should just use something like a Samsung ISOCELL S5K3L6 or similar (there's a lot of sensors with this sensor's exact specifications, like the GalaxyCore GC13A0, the Hynix HI1336, the SmartSens SC1320, and more). Also, I get that these larger 13MP sensors have the same pixel pitch as those smaller 8MP sensors, but they at least have a good resolution that isn't stuck in 2014, and generally they are able to do macro if the OEM wants to implement it. That's why Motorola for example switched to Samsung sensors for its budget lineup, because they make 8MP sensors that have autofocusing capabilities and so can do macro, while most of OmniVision's 8MP offerings either outright don't have autofocus or their autofocusing capabilities aren't good enough to do macro with.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2024You mean OV08D10? That seems like an good sensor. Good, rather than excellent, because 8MP is too low a resolution and should be relegated to extremely low-end phones, but that's basically its only fault. It's by far the best 8MP sensor you can get, since it's can competently do HDR, is 1/1.73"-type, and has all the latest bells and whistles to it that other newer sensors also have. I'd honestly have a mixed opinion about whether or not it should be used, but it is a good sensor nonetheless.
Edit: Disregard my comment above entirely, I mixed it up with the OX08D10.
The OV08D10 is a terrible and ancient sensor, nothing good about it.

Charging more for a curved screen and basically a 695 in new clothes is not good.

Motorola, make it make sense. $350/£350/€350 is fine, but give some upgrades ffs. Use a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 or a MediaTek Dimensity 7300, don't use a curved screen, replace the 16MP selfie with a 12MP/13MP one, and replace the ultrawide with a 12MP/13MP one. Also, as much as 12GB of RAM on a phone in this price range is nice, it's not necessary, and if it means that the costs require a sacrifice of better specs in other areas, I'd rather they put 8GB of RAM instead. The macro capabilities of the ultrawide is nice at this price range, and should honestly be standard across the industry, but that 8MP sensor that is being used is ancient and shouldn't be used outside of extremely cheap phones that are about a third of this phone's price.
Also, give the Motorola Razr 50 12GB of RAM, it makes more sense for it to have that than for the Motorola Moto G85 to have it. Plus, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra should have a 50MP ultrawide alongside the 50MP 2× telephoto, there's no reason for it not to have an ultrawide.
