The rugged smartphone maker's first foray into foldables is the cheapest Flip phone yet.

First of all, this phone doesn't aim at being a flagship. It's aiming at providing this form factor at a cheaper price. The G99 isn't a bad chip at all but it's cheap and it's not wanting to claim flagship performance. I think it's a good step into democratising such flip things and if they do provide the claimed software and security updates then it's not bad at all. The other "cheaper" flip phone from ZTE isn't that much better either but has 5G and a higher refresh rate but that one doesn't claim to be flagship grade either. Now, are these phones cheap in the full sense of the word? No. Around the €500 mark isn't cheap but for this kind of phones it is when you compare it to the other brands that do claim flagship grade, even if they aren't flagship on all levels. If you want a flip phone from a better known brand you have to go for a Motorola Razr flip 40 which has dropped in price around the €450-500 mark in some parts Europe. In short, don't expect premium when it's not intended as such.

    The Helio G99 here is even worse. At least the 6 gen 1 supports 4k.

            They really should have charged $100 more and provided a better front screen and better refresh rate, etc.

                Affordable?? More than 400€ for a clamshell with android 13 , expected to get android 14 by the end of the year....
                Hélio G99, 60HZ....

                Moto RAZR 40 is almost the same and its better than this.

Just ripped off ringtones from Vivo and Xiaomi phones, topped with OriginOS wallpapers and extremely modified (and non-updatable) Google apps

                            429€ is good price, they will probably offer it under carriers for half of that so that's why specs are on the lower side.

                              The chipset compromise is definitely not worth the flip phone form factor.

                                  After WWDC and Apple discriminating against the iPhone 14 Pro and not giving it AI...... I will be trying a Flip phone.......but 6.9 inches is way too long and thin.....

When you smart enough to invent a cpu, for what matters, then come here and talk about others work as being a hot mess... darn

Plus 90hz on non-flagship hardware is the worst, it feels like choppy 120hz, and the 6 Gen 1 certainly ain't flagship, not even a good midrange chipset, it's a hot mess.

                                        I want this inferior display tech to die off already.... it's just to sturdy enough.
