First they were inno... moreEven the 108 MP sensor on the S20 Ultra wouldn't have been made if not for Xiaomi's push and co-operation with Samsung Electronics in 2019. Hence the Mi Note 10 (Mi CC9 Pro in China) was the first with a 108 MP 1/1.33" main camera sensor.

Xiaomi also co-developed the type 1.0 IMX989 with Sony.

Xiaomi pushes for progress not only in camera dept., but also display. Hence they have had 12-bit displays since the 12-series, and obviously they support the best HDR format, Dolby Vision.

Let's see if S25-series finally will get a 10 or 12-bit display. They've been stuck in 8-bit for ages. Dolby Vision is nearly guaranteed to not be supported still.

Samsung also skimps on Bluetooth codecs btw., not just video. They cut costs everywhere, but reviewers are too scared to call them out on it. Samsung is too big to miss being first on reviewing and getting those views/clicks.

Anonymous, 21 Jun 2024Proper software quality, if that's want you meant. Cau... moresoftware quality isn't perfect in either brand. My normie family members can see the bugs and glitches on iPhones and I use an S22 Ultra so yeah, nothing crazy from them, people hype them up too much because that's what brings in clicks. It's all a circlej*rk.

Build quality is something I have no problems with on iPhones, they feel good and last long, at least for the 2-4 years we use, without any issues. I don't have access to any 15 Pro series phones but the 15 Plus I've tried is pretty dang nice.

What I meant is that Apple has a good balance of a quality product. Good build, nice speakers, great battery, top tier videography, great photography that you just can't go wrong with for the most part and good performance. Samsung though, they don't have better speakers nor better cameras. So yeah they kinda suck in that sense. Apple's processing is infinitely better than Samsung's and like, most people buy premium phones for better cameras, and Samsung fails spectacularly. The one phone that I saw the S24 Ultra being compared to the most is the Oneplus 12. That phone is priced like the S24+, so it's being compared to a phone one tier lower and wins in a tight-ish battle, wow. That's just sad.

What I meant before is that Samsung copies everything about Apple, like the poor pricing, focusing on software, which is cheaper than giving good hardware, etc. but Apple actually gives somewhat decent products at the end of the day and Samsung just doesn't. They've stooped down to Apple's level without understanding that Apple figured it all out years ago, how many updates to give to keep users happy with customization and close the gap with androids in terms of software, hardware and cameras. The only complaint people had before is that Apple was way too closed off and didn't allow nearly any customization and now that's gone too, their customization is great now. I just don't understand why so many people still buy the S24 though, I guess st*pid people like to spend their money on st*pid things.

Even apple went 3x back with their 15 series. Samsung have many features, yes and there are brain racking for people who just want to customize but have no clue, but only few features are implemented very well. Heck a 1200 phone doesn't even have a qi magnetic wireless charger. And pixels have them sad. Would even prefer if Samsung copied stainless steel other than titanium.. really registering them as the ultimate copycat, xiaomi copy iOS UI alot. But atleast not every single thing, sure apple copies alot but they wait at least a year until the features are no more talked about before bringing it and implementing a nice effect for it. And then you hear Android had it a long time ago, but it's forgotten.

jiyen235, 21 Jun 2024DJ Koh may not have been perfect but he gave us the S7, S10... moreThis is precisely what they copy from Apple. The greed and laziness. Quality is not that bad. At least not compared to anything else out there.
The sad part is this is how the whole market is. So samsung is still among the best.... the best just isn't that great anymore

Making one sensor slightly smaller and one slightly bigger while reusing the same other one is an upgrade?????????

And yeah, I hate the new direction Samsung's taken, it's just all gone, innovation be d*rned I just want a good product. A good product also includes a good price, recent Samsung phones don't have that going for them anymore, I miss the days when Samsung was cheaper yet better than Apple in every way. Now they just copy Apple in every way except for proper quality, so they have mid products at a high price.

What is all this rubbish with Samsung? First they were innovators and now they are just copy cats, now i think it's only for software and superfluous features people buy Samsung(me too). When it comes to zoom lens they are ahead, but main camera the one people would mostly use 8.5/10 times they fail at it. The 108mp debut on the s20 ultra was awesome because yes even smaller mp had tiny sensor sizes. But now it's not like that anymore. Imagine an s24 ultra using 1 Samsung lenses and 3 Sony ones, how would we not have color shift when switching through lenses? Why not innovate the big sensors? The mi 11 ultra used a GN2 sensor 50mp and eclipsed the s21 ultra in terms of main camera performance and night time photos. The s20 ultra gave us bigger lenses and Samsung went 2x back with the s21 ultra and the rest. Now why didn't they keep using the 48mp 4x telephoto periscope on the s20u? They downgrade to a 10mp 3x and a 10mp 10x, yes I agree they are the best when it comes to zooming. 10x,30x,50x and 100x but who zooms past 20x?. Yes a note 20 ultra still takes better zoomed in shots than a 15 pro max with same 12 mp resolution, period. And a 50x already have some oil paint effect. In short. Samsung innovate again(it wouldn't take anything from you to use all your upgraded sensors on your "ULTRA" Smartphone. It wouldn't still take anything from you to give us your best even if they look gimmicky on paper. We don't want Ai, even if we do need it we don't want you putting it as your star of the show like it's all we need and more. Stop this fooling and give us something better (hence why I'm always a collector, buying different smartphones from Samsung, Apple and the Chinese competitors, some are usually gifts, but either way all my flagship Chinese smartphones always comes out on top in terms of camera performance.) The only thing Sam and Apple have going for them is the brand recognition and the software updates. I wonder why top YouTubers won't let my feed rest with "Samsung vs Apple who's the best". try and compare other competitors tf.

They have properly optimise their new algorithms this time around, to extract the most out of those sensors. Though the sensors could have been bigger too, considering many Chinese flagships are only equipping larger sensors for all its cameras with each generation.

Anonymous, 21 Jun 2024But fixing excess of NR and sharpening , horrible color sci... morecolor science is not bad, it's all about the exposure. If they fixed the exposure and made it more natural instead of their sh*tty "balanced" look then their photos would automatically go from 6/10 to 8/10. The next things to fix are noise reduction and sharpening but the main problem is the NR, it's just poor on Samsungs. They don't reduce much noise compared to their competitors but wow the details are all scrubbed off. And worse yet, there's a pink/purple tinge due to the color noise, try to look at the night mode shots of the S24 Ultra, you'll see it.

Whatever they do, it won't fix their cameras. Their main vision is wrong, their camera algorithm butchers photos. A day and age where iPhones handily beat Samsung is sad.

IpsDisplay, 21 Jun 2024As usual Huawei, Vivo photography piers are gonna destroy t... moregone, replaced by a sad shell of its former self, taking whatever their past teams had done and making it worse.

Samsung wasn't always this bad. They were always toe to toe with Huawei and I actually preferred their photos over others for the most part, till the Note20 Ultra. Then something just happened and they just stopped being so cool. Like, the S20 Ultra's main cam is basically the one being used now, talking about the size, they haven't changed in so long. So is the UW cam. That was fine back then when no one else was better but they haven't got the memo it seems, they just haven't improved much since then. Then there's the design and the styluses and stuff, they perfected that stuff with the Note 10, S21 and Note20 and they just reused all that and the S24 Ultra made it worse. Phones should be curvy, they are held for long amounts of time and curvy phones are comfortable.

And their photo processing.... they butchered it. It was fine until the Note20 Ultra days but then they just shifted gears and now just yuck.

Nothing much you can do though, apparently the S24 series sold better than the S23 series, like what? If people are this d*mb and keep buying stuff up then Samsung's gonna continue on their path. The future is looking sad really.
