If you want Streaming services and Multi Hop (Secure Core) and another features recommended Proton Plus Plan for 1 years 4.99 USD/month x 12 ! The same price with Mullvad !
If you don't need Streaming Feature just a Simple VPN Connection it's great Mullvad because I have possibility to pay just 5 Euro monthly! And don't need to pay a Plan for 1 years directly!

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2024all good just i wouldn't use nordvpn , they have a ske... moreNord personally consider is not trustworthy VPN because have a lot of trackers on Website. Nord App it's Not Open Source and have trackers from big G . I think Proton it's Ok and the price drops now it's accessible! App it's Open Source and don't have trackers from big G only trackers I found is Sentry! Mullvad and IVPN VPN it's a another option because don't require email address Generate ID. Only single Problem is IVPN Have a small Infrastructure of Servers.
And the last I think PIA VPN it's acceptable No found trackers in App and app it's Open Source!

is this an informative, objective piece of information or just paid advertising?

Y'all selling out like this is why I feel no guilt over using an adblocker on your site.

Does it make any difference if you're using WiFi or your cell service? I don't use a VPN (no need) so I am just curious.

Reader, 13 Jul 2024It would be appreciated if sponsored or otherwise affiliate... moreWhat matters most is that it was an HONEST benchmark, not whether or not it was also an advertisement.

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2024On a low end device, you'll notice significant battery... moreNot true. I'm using Wireguard app on my Snapdragon 625 phone and I see no difference in battery life.

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2024What about secure dns? Does it slow down your internet spee... moreYou are using DNS anyway, so Secure DNS isn't affecting your internet speed comparing to non-secure DNS.

I use a privately run VPN service and I can confirm it doesn't hurt battery life so much. I still get more than a day on my S23 and I limit charging to 80%. The VPN is always on otherwise I can't reach most of my self-hosted services.

For public VPN I'd go for mullvad though.

You did not mention what was the wireless connection technology used for the testing: WiFi / Cellular ? If cellular, 4G or 5G ?
This will have a major effect on battery consumption.

Dont use NordVPN though, really bad service. Split tunnel that dont work and even after you filled in a few tickets, 12months later still the same issue.

Takes even more power to test to see if the VPN is for real actually doing what it is supposed to do. Set up a network to look at the traffic for an extended period of time. Is it for real really encrypted? Probably not all the time. So VPN who cares?

And if the phone is so top notch in the first place when the phone is paid for, why does it need an aftermarket VPN at all anyway? Isn't better really really?

With VPN your home ISP can only see that you are connecting to VPN but it can't see what are you searching on the web, though your VPN provider will know that but you are paying for their silence, right?
