I give my grandma a Samsung and she got no problems and never complaint about anything with that. Like you, she's not into customization and custom ROM stuffs, and she just use her phone for WhatsApp and YouTube.
It's not that this brand is easier to use and that brand is harder to use. It's just that you're get used to it.

Also, at that price point, most people don't care anymore about how much they spent on a smartphone, is it that hard to upgrade their camera?

Rakesh, 07 Jul 2024Funny how I am exact opposite story. From apple to droid fo... moreLike I said, in my age I don't care about latest and greatest anymore. I have literally 5 photos in my phone right now, and maybe 10 apps (other than the ones preinstalled on iPhone, which by the way I can uninstall almost all of them, including FaceTime if I want).
I don't care about customization, themes, custom ROM, etc. Maybe 20 years ago I cared about those things. I just want a phone who works out of the box, without any lag and headaches and bloatware and going into settings, etc.
Is funny, when I started using iPhones, maybe 4 years ago, I though they are the worse thing that happened to humanity (lol). Now, when I try using an Android phone is like I have 2 left hands. Can't find anything quickly and everything seems to me harder to do.
Which is strange, because every single elderly person I know (above 70 years old), that has a smartphone, has an Android. And I mean, every single one, with no exceptions. Is strange, because I am finding iPhones much more user friendly and simplistic. But maybe is just me.

You can only do so much on the front screen, that in the end, it has to be unfolded to be a proper smartphone. Meanwhile, the Fold can pretty much function as a normal smartphone without being unfolded.

However, personally I want the flip not to have a folding screen. I want something like China exclusive Galaxy W2019. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd love to feel the tactile feedback of real buttons.

Why would they cannibalise sales of ultra by keeping same cameras in already expensive folding devices that sell because they fold. Think.

If foldables are to be a futuristic devices, they should bring a better hw, not worse.
From what I see, they should either bring real foldable flagship, not just one with 200mp or ''good enough'' cameras, or they should move away to VR.
VRs get plenty of cameras and space for them, and though still not made as phone alternative, being able to shoot stills is possible and they can do what phones cannot too - recording and playing 3D videos hands free.
Though I shoot stills and its still a majot thing, social networks are all about videos now, stills playing a small role since its hard to catch attention and spread more information with a still.
Then add 3D on top and I tell you, 3D is unlike 2D, it feels very real, so it will catch way more attention.
VRs are nxt phones.

As much as I like the Flip, I don't think the Flip design is going anywhere. It's nearly pointless in the age of modern smartphone. Pretty much all Flip users I have seen leave their phones unfolded, making it pointless as you might as well bought a regular slab phone. Imo, the Fold design is the one one that makes sense.

Unfold my story.
Had Windows phones when they were a thing (some Nokia Lumia ones).
Then had Samsung phones (S3, S4, S9, etc. until S21+).
Some Chinese phones (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Realme).
Some Asus, Sony and Motorola phones in between.
This on a period of 10-13 years.
Now I have iPhones.
Never going back to Android. Not because of the phones (those are actually pretty nice), but because of Android and inferior Google services compared to Apple ones (Google TV vs Apple TV+, Play Pass vs Apple Arcade, YouTube Music vs Apple Music and so on).
Yeah, of course, you can have Netflix, Xbox Game Pass/PS Plus, or Spotify. But nowadays, at my age, I just want one account with one password for everything. And Apple (being so large company) can provide this.
And I have a feeling in 5-10 years, Apple will enter the gaming industry too. And not just mobile gaming industry. Not for me, I will be around 50 years old at that time (lol), but for those that are young now, will be very nice.

But Fold shines when it comes to software and consistency, at least by number of reviews I have seen. Only Google pixel fold will come near it. And then all the steps that go around updates.
