Anonymous, 10 Jul 2024And why is that happening? Is something happening with BoM?Its multiple factors including BoM, inflation, the shift to oleds instead of LCDs, and also getting those flagship trends pushed into the mid range and budget segments. Either way customers are not asking for much. We're not asking for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to be put into a Moto G85.
To make this phone a complete package for £300 the following changes should be made:
-Get rid of the curved screen
-Put in a headphone jack
-See if putting in a 5500 or 6000mah is possible
-Give us a chip like the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 or a MediaTek 7300 (Understand people don't like mediateks because they want custom launchers)

Anonymous, 10 Jul 2024What has happened this year?Too many phones in budget/mid range pricing making too many compromises. Take this phone for example, has a curved screen, no performance uplift as its using a 3 year old chip and removal of headphone jack.
Some phones will have a headphone jack but don't include the SD card slot and we're also now seeing a removal of chargers in the box. I don't mind this but then then the prices of the phones get more expensive which doesn't make sense with all of these removed features and no performance uplift!
We've been seeing this from Motorola, Oneplus, Redmi, Nothing, Samsung and others. This trend is slowly creeping in. Many users don't want to spend on flagship devices, don't have the budget for a £300+ phone or want to buy something simple for their parents to use.
As mentioned in the comments previously it does seem to me that the Moto G34 is a great option, also the Moto G Stylus however that's only available in US markets

Raghuvarv, 10 Jul 2024The G84 has a low quality AMOLED with a pathetic 90 hz PWM,... moreThanks for your reply. I just looked into the G34 and agree with everything you said. It might have a 720p 120hz LCD screen but the Snapdragon 695 here would actually be good here. Has an SD card slot, headphone jack, stereo speakers and 5000mah battery!
At the moment I've got a G82 and before that I had a Moto G30. I really liked the G30 for its 7 day battery life. I might have to get a G34 just in case because the phones released this year are making too many compromises.
The CMF Phone 1 is getting roasted online for not having NFC which has completey annoyed the European market.

Snapdragon 695 hater, 10 Jul 2024No headphone jack
Curved screen
Still uses snapdragon 695... moreThe G84 has a low quality AMOLED with a pathetic 90 hz PWM, which is extremely bad for the eyes and migraine sufferers, and it comes with Android 13 and will at best get 14.
The G34 is a far better deal. Comes with essentially the same SOC and costs 60% as much even at full retail price. It's display is at least genuinely good for the price class, and it comes out of the box with Android 14 and will get 15.

At least it has 2 OS updates unlike the one that every other Moto G phone gets. 3W extra doesn't matter though.

Here, G85 has initial price 10% higher than what motorola asks for 40 Neo.
