Random Malaysian, 19 Jul 2024it's disturbing how you downplay phone retailer like t... moreI suggest you to apply for Amazon, ebay, Geekwills, wish & AliExpress for betterment of income. I know as I also have worked as Mobile Seller that it's humiliating & most of the times you need to work overtime. But that's how World is, unfair :( . Apply there for customer support, it'll give you better earning as well as you get to work in corporate environment where you won't need to worry much. Also, once you are permanent, you can shift your focus on other available opportunities in that field. Plus, you can make affiliate links to get additional income.

Random Malaysian, 19 Jul 2024it's disturbing how you downplay phone retailer like t... moreHey Now. Don't make me emotional. I do come from a poor family. I started to work very early at a cloth shop where my first income was $18 per month. I made sure I work hard to reach here. I agree with you and I don't like it either that commission things are going on. Companies think that in offline market, you can fool people and sell crap instead of VFM products only to make sure they are in profits to earn money and use it as investments. Shopkeepers also ask for profit percentage from companies per product sell. I hate it cuz I like to earn legit money by keeping customers happy otherwise they won't buy from us but people don't have tech knowledge and just fell to their tricks. But people think they know everything which is why even anyone tells them, they don't listen and fell in this traps. What more can a tech person do ?? Only China and somewhat India is a market where VFM market exists. Outside there isn't much when there's not any sale. Imagine iPhone launched at INR 80000/$1000 gets discounted to INR 30000/$380 in India during sale where $1000 gets discounted only upto $600 max in sale outside. In China you get Flagship 8 Gen 3 Phones starting at $470. Here it costs $770.

oppo and vivo salesman literally had to do humiliating dances in front of public to put some food on their table
they got paid based on commission they only have like 70 usd base pay and the rest is commission just like tipping culture
so you need to convince people, often lying or humiliating yourself just to get what? 8 ringgit per buyer and there are multiple salesman competing with you
it's a toxic business rife with bullying and harassment, don't think it's a high profit
you don't know the struggles of poor people like us at least don't talk about it like you have a doctorate in this field

So you're saying "shopkeeper" get an ultra phone for $1000 each and sell it to end user for $1599? A literal 59% markup? From the manufacturer? How noble of the OEM to undersell their best of the best phones with basically no profit or even loss to give poor "shopkeeper" an opportunity, a whole fifty-freaking-nine-percent profit! I should change my career path to a "shopkeeper"!

                    Well jokes aside,
Apple, the literal premium "overpriced" brand, only got 26.37% net profit for Q2Y24. You can guess what's the margin of other "cheap" brands, especially Chinese.
Also, 3rd party distributors like "shopkeeper" that you talk of barely got 10% profit from selling a phone, at least the honest one that doesn't cook the price. That's why most of them also sell accessories like cases, screen protector, or even services like phone repair, sometime they even sell unrelated at all items like fridge or e-bike, those thing have much bigger margin than selling phone itself.
I know because I run and invest in a franchise phone shop in my home country called Erafone, and it's considered big, if you have run-of-the-mill phone shop with extra distributors, you'll get even less profit.

Well all in all I hope you consider twice before opening a business should you miscalculate things and get bankrupt in a month, happens all the time, you should focus on pension fund instead. "Yesterday's Generation".

I have certainly worked across all these things. Also, understand that it is different in all countries. So, your information might not be totally wrong but what I said is 100% correct. Tech Guy, 19 Jul 2024🤣 is what I can say to your comment. And seriously, sensors... moreBased on your lack of knowledge about supply chain I assume your experience is that of an average line worker/labourer?
Don't you know R&D and marketing cost money? I know because I was in an R&D team.
If your argument is that it cost $1k in material, or BoM as we call it, then what about your pay? I know you only got paid about $200/mo as an average line worker but multiply that for every assembly stage, which is about 10 person per phone, and consider there are multiple assembly lines per factory too.
As for marketing department it's quite a lot higher than assembly worker like you too, and marketing like live event, sponsorship, ads and stuff it's very costly. Then the non-managerial big fish like R&D and engineering can get up to $10k per person... and we works in a team, for every concurrent project so there are multiple teams. I won't even talk about managers, or regulatory fees, or tariff, or facilities, or logistics, or insurance.
So yeah, even if the BoM is only 50% of MSRP the net profit would be more like 20% or so, with many Chinese companies even making do with less than 10%. That's like the basic of business, ask your nearby food stall how much their ingredients cost, it's probably like 30% or so even.

🤣 is what I can say to your comment. And seriously, learn how business work before making that kind of comment, especially after showing off your "credibility" (as a line worker? seriously?).

And seriously, sensors aren't that much expensive. I don't know if you have worked inside of a manufacturing of a phone company but Phones around Ultra Flagships don't cost that much. Companies try to sell it as costliest as it can for ultra to compete against iPhones & make their own expensive phones. But in reality things don't cost that much. Even if we use all sensors in ultra Flagships, phone can go to $1000. Then company can think to sell it at $1599. I know cuz I have worked in one company.

Retroreflective sensor? Why would a phone have that?
In your opinion, eleven modules (or like six if you know some of those terms means the same thing) "are all required camera features to match today's standards of cameras which started from 2019"?
This thing if it were real it'd cost at least ten grands, weight over a pound, and looks more like a brick instead of phone, that will make even Energizer Power Max P18K Pop looks as thin as a paper.
