I essentially never interact with samsung TV platform. Sure it's not for everyone. Some people would be ok live with the stock TV OS and that's totally fine. But for some others (me included), this kind of device gives more option. My point is, it's a quite significant market share, that if google manage to get even only some of the portion, it would still be quite significant.

Google TV doesn’t have any tie ups with the OTT providers and hence it will be another device, wire, cable etc….Now a days, I do not even use cable for my domestic Set Top Box and streaming all sort of content without having to have another device (setup box of course). Unless Google TV itself becomes Universal Set Top Box that can be configured for all providers across the globe, I feel this is an additional unwanted device for the most.

Both use their own Smart TV platform on their TVs so it is actually make sense for google to try to grab some percentage from those users. I have Samsung TV and I can say that google TV is miles better than Samsung's stock smart TV platform.

Jbis, 23 Jul 2024What's makes apple TV a failure? Most of the TV viewers outside USA do not use Apple TV. Apple TV itself is expensive and it was having limited features (no 4K, not allowing domestic OTT in their platform) and another set of wires which are totally unnecessary in the current TV market

Already all TVs have Google Chromecast built in and OTT are already packaged in their own built in software. Unless this replaces the SetTop Box of all TV Providers, this will be a flop outside USA like Apple TV. Is this really required?

This would be monumentally stupid. The reason their devices are selling is because they fit behind the TV. The reason Apple's nonsense has always been a failure is because it doesn't.

cheezo, 23 Jul 2024why? what value will it have over the current models? Hopefully it'll be more powerful. I've got a chromecast 4k and while it's not horrible it still doesn't feel smooth most of the time.

Google oh google please stop doing this and creating more e-waste because in 2 years you wont support this thing. I would love authorities to penalise tech companies for wasting so much of resources and actually support something right through. Google being the worst. Anyway I have a 5 year old Android TV box that does the exact thing this does and still works perfectly. No thanks...

No buy
