There must be some valid reason for the hesitation to implement it by government, right?

We here in Pakistan are struggling with HEAVY taxes on mobile phones and electronic devices meanwhile our brother country, whom we are the biggest enemies of, is succeeding rapidly. Our phone prices have rised a LOT since the budget was presented for the year 2024, and this happens almost every year now when the budget is presented, meanwhile in India, the opposite has just happened. Our government is apparently installing a firewall for shutting up those who bash the government. And then, the government is now thinking to abolish the IT ministry! Not being envious or jealous, but India has had 5G since MANY years and our government always says, "5G release delayed". Only God can improve the situation of our country, Pakistan.

Good move by gov, but I'm sure that companies will NOT change their prices, and rather will just make more profits from this

Really, the obvious solution to high prices would be tariff liberalization, but that's obviously not something the current government there would be open to. Even though the economic reforms of the 90s worked wonders for the economy.

"India aims to lower smartphone price by 15% with a new tax reduction"
It is not 15% reduction. Tax is reduced from 20% to 15%, so it's highly unlikely OEM will pass on to end customers, usually they absorb these by blaming weak rupees against dollar or inflation. Anyway in the budget smartphone segments the profit of margin is already slim(according to OEMs 🤷). Even if they do, it might be around 1-2% reduction.

Government of India is giving such concessions under “Make in India” initiative for the last 10 years. All the manufacturers will absorb this benefit and won’t lower the prices of their products for the end user. Apple had already stated that they WON’T reduce the prices of their products and instead will re-invest that amount for the further expansion of their portfolio in India.

I don't think this tax cut will help the consumer.
Inflation will eat reductions anyway.
Just enjoy the show with some popcorn.
That's it.
