Maybe huawei only looks good at that time before the existance of other chinese brand. Today huawei is just a mediocre phone brand with no google service.

the 53 millions phones samsung sold ,70% was from A series entry model Ao4,A14,A24 ,A34 .its is not flagship. As usual when enter Q2 , the S series will sale start to slump till end of the year and samsung will give massive discount .
Apple still rule on premium segement and Xiaomi flagship budget poco F series continue to sell well .

They buy product as part of their style and reputation so brand recognition is important. Example in my country, before branding with leica, xiaomi hard to compete with vivo and samsung (in premium market).
