The rest of us don't really have a decent alternative.

Walmart's onn. Google TV 4K Pro Streaming Device for $50, seems like a better deal. It has the same memory, ram, Ethernet port, built in GA speaker and most importantly, a full size USB 3 port that I can confirm, supports exFat formatted ssds. Google is playing catch-up 🤣

Rip Chromecast then.. Again, when it was launched, it was not implemented in all tv and all, now it's kinda standard since a few years..
But this streamer is recycling old chipset for upselling at this price.. There is better choice out there for cheaper :)

Even if you do not care about WiFi (i.e., there's gigabit Ethernet there), the fact this box does not have (at least) WiFi 6 is a pretty major indicator it has an outdated SoC. At USD$99 one would expect (at least) the latest budget Amlogic SoC (or similar from Rockchip/Mediatek), just like all other competing Android TV boxes already have at this price point.

I'm glad that I bought a Chromecast recently. At £100 there is no way that I buying this. It is not a major upgrade that worth £40 by any means except the fact that the form fsctor channged. It is just a minor upgrade dor tidays standard given the fact that it is an upgrade after 4 years. You can say the Chromecast got up to date and rebranded. That's it. Why would some one pay £100 for this device when there is other non Google alternatives available at a cheaper price.

another reason is that their tv is completely fine, and even if they put up with the slowness, the support can end at anytime, this february sony smart devices (tvs and bluray players) from 2011 to 2013 lost support to even play netflix

im surprised they are going to charge 100 usd for this, bet its nowhere near the performance of the apple tv 4k which goes for 129 usd, considering the minor spec bump it would have made sense to make it 70 usd and compete with the fire tv stick max
its really a shame as the streamers from google are the best ones available for android tv/google tv

looks solid, would be nice if there was a microsd slot for expandable storage tho

Only 4GB of RAM, No Wi-Fi 6, old Bluetooth. Not worth the money. Shame for Google.
