OLED displays are good for dimmer environments but in bright sunlight none of them are all that great. If you work outdoors in a sunny environment you really need a phone with an IPS screen. Maybe there is a phone out there with a PaperWhite technology like an e-reader that is legible in all lighting conditions.

Interesting comments, and appreciate the linked testing results as an adjunct to the GSMArena test. A quick question on your use case. If you max out brightness, is battery longevity, screen on time available, a concern? How about image burn-in? Looking at this site's screen test, they have an auto mode which does have the Oppo at the lower end of peer nit measures, but the manual mode test shows the Oppo doing better than most others - a programming choice rather than a hardware inadequacy? There is also a mention in the review that 4500 nits would be possible with HDR content, but that would not represent 75% white screen coverage. Anyway, looks like Oppo will be equipping the next Find devices with bigger batteries, possibly more efficient controls, to allow more light for people who need it and to handle the higher power needs of the next gen processors as well.

Huh, 12 Aug 2024Here is a link to the Oppo Find X7 Ultra test you mention -... moreI just take GSMArena and notebookcheck as my go to sources as they have a large number of devices tested and they use a solid/the same testing methodology for nearly all of them so it's easily comparable.

Again, I'm mostly concerned about brightness. It's the be all for me because I live in a country where it's sunny most of the times and anything below 1200 nits is not that easy to see, I use an S22 Ultra and I tried using a family member's iPhone 13 Pro outside and it was quite dim in comparison to me at least.

The Find X7 series is indeed lacking in terms of brightness compared to other flagships, along with the Oneplus 12. The X100 Pro reaches 1400 nits and the X100 Ultra reaches 1800 nits, XIaomi's 14 Ultra reaches 1250+ nits, the Xperia 1 VI reaches 1300+ nits, the S24 Ultra, Pixel 8 Pro and the iPhone 15 PM reach 1450+ nits. the 1150+ nits of the X7 Ultra is indeed lacking if we factor in GSMarena's tests. And comparatively, the notebookcheck tests are also lacking.

Color accuracy is quite easy for phones, OLEDs aren't as tough to calibrate as MiniLEDs afaik. The main problem is gamma and phone OLEDs all have wonky gamma so I don't even care anymore, same goes for PQ EOTF, it's tough to see perfect tracking, nearly no independent reviewer measures it like how HDTVTest does for TVs. Dxomark is biased so I don't trust them and DisplayMate seems kinda biased as well as all of their displays tested are the best of all time, if everything's the best then nothing is.

But anyways, I respect the color accuracy numbers of the Find X7 Ultra but nowadays even midrangers are well calibrated OLEDS and even the Poco F6 Pro gets 1200 nits. What's your point? I'm just saying the Find X7 Ultra was disappointing compared to everyone else and I've given my reasons. I did read some of the displaymate review you posted and also the X7 Ultra one, my conclusion was still the same.

Brightness levels are not a be all, end all once color gamuts, ambient lighting conditions, even the automated spectrum adaptation of phones like the Find X series are taken into consideration. Manufacturers also need to evaluate impact on battery life and display longevity as torch modes have significant negative impacts. Suffice it to say the Oppo Find X7 series, in context, are not at all lacking. Based on the stream of
updates for the Find X7 series since release, continued measurable improvements might be expected in subsequent updating of firmware and software. Though Displaymate does not offer direct head to head comparisons to the public on their site, other mobile phones that they tested and deemed worth noting can be found here for those who are interested - www.displaymate.com/mobile.html#Latest

Huh, 11 Aug 2024Brother, what are you on about? https://www.displaymate.com... morenotebookcheck and gsmarena were unable to get 1200+ nits with their standard 75%+ white windows. Also, the review you sent is for the Find X7, not the Ultra. The displays are different.

I also took a look at the Find X7 Ultra review and it seems weird. Idk why notebookcheck and GSMarena got different results honestly. But if the results of the brightness tests aren't reliably repeatable, what's the point of measurements?

If the Ultra is China only they can stick their phones where the sun don't shine. If they won't make global consumers a priority then I won't make them one either.

Probably also big battery. But that's no surprise.

Bro why would they not release the Ultra globally? Don't they want us to spend more money? smh.

What's the rationale in keeping the flagships china-only?

The Ultra would be perfect if it used a flat display with dual layer oled.

vanilla X8 will come with flat display 🥳

I would like to buy oppo find x7/8 pro/ultra in China.
The problem is, that android auto and (google pay should) is not working
On Oneplus phones with oxygenOS everything is working.
I think it should be possible for oppo to adjust the software on colorOS.
Oppo find x- phones are still not available in Europe/Switzerland.
I have a oppo find x3 pro with updates until about beginning 2025.

Under a bright enough light source it was able to reach 1600+ nits for full screen brightness but that was almost impossible to reproduce in most scenarios.
