Super difficult to keep each lens cleaned, covers either have a huge protrusion anyway or cover the whole area so what's the point of having them separated and they're easier to dirty up in a flat desk or something, from my experience. It feels like they saw Apple seeing success with separated cameras and wanted to do it as well in their own way. Both feel super lifeless anyways.

xPandamon, 20 Aug 2024Apples cameras protrude a lot more, because the island and ... moreI'm basing this off of memory but I've tried an iPhone 14 PM, 13 PM and 12 PM, all of them felt similar in terms of protrusion and I can't comment on the 15 PM since I didn't try it but I believe it's going to be the same. Anyways, I have an S22 Ultra and have tried an S23 Ultra, and all of them felt similar to me. Besides, all of them require cases of a similar thickness to hide the bump, my main gripe is that if I have to get a thicker case anyway then why didn't they make it like that in the first place? Like the leather cases looked thicc af to me so I went with another random one that has a protrusion on the camera island for my S22U.
I think the lack of an island is both a design and practicality L. Tougher to clean, and tougher to protect unless you get a protrusion on the case OR you cover everything up which leads to a level camera island-type thing anyway. Especially annoying considering the fact that the edges of the rings aren't smooth like the rest of the phone, they're sharp-ish. Not nice to rub your fingers over them. The Note20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra essentially had solved the problem yet Samsung created a newer in pursuit of a "brand identity" which just feels more like a shameless copy of Apple. Like who else has separated protruding cameras? Only Huawei comes to mind in the flagship space and Xiaomi/Nothing and a few others make that stuff in the midrange space and Huawei gets a pass cus it looks like they REALLY try to make a good looking phone. The Pura 70 Ultra looks unique, even though it reminds me of Apple's island a lot. It just catches your eye and is a memorable design. Unlike Samsung's S22 series onwards.
If it were any other company making this design, no one would've liked it/remembered it and the company would've changed it the next year.
lol ofc it's "unique" cus only Samsung does it. The key point is that it looks generic, like any cheap midranger like a Poco or something. A flagship needs flair, character. Or the minimalist class of Sony (which Samsung had with the Note10 series) yet they just feel like randomized circles on a rectangular body. Take a look at the generic mess that was the S20U then the beauty of the Note20U and in Xiaomi's terms, there's the 13 Pro which was refined into the 14 Pro.
Design should be about function first and then the form should follow it. The "new" Samsung look is just neither. I don't hate the look, I like it actually, it's just super generic and uninspired. I always prefer centered cameras. And if Samsung can't do that it better be a beauty like the S21U or the Note20U which the S22 onwards phones aren't. So they don't look amazing and they aren't the best in terms of practicality. Huge L

I can compare my S23U with a friends iPhone 15 Pro Max and HE was the one that said the camera island on his iPhone feels way too bit. If it wasn't as bad, he wouldn't use a case as thick as his current one.
I don't really mind the lack of an island. It allows for cases that go around each lense for a clean, flat look, something that is pretty much impossible to do with current iPhones and difficult depending on what other phone is the comparison. Cleaning can be annoying, although not the biggest deal in my opinion.
It feels generic, that's true, but since only Samsung uses something like it, it's also unique, ironically. I know what I would like: A camera island that you can fold out like a camcorder or even detach to use separate from the rest of the phone. That would be so damn cool and remove the need for a selfiecam entirely. Sadly it seems the last manufacturer that would do something like that, Asus, doesn't take such risks anymore. Or a Galaxy Zoom 2, that would also be neat :)

See how your argument can be used for nearly anything? Anyways, you're just an Apple hater/a Samsung fanboy. There's no way you're calling Apple's camera island massive whilst forgetting Samsung's camera modules protrude more.
The main issue I have is not in the design per say but in the usability, it's tough to clean and cases at the end of the have a bump so why have separated modules like that? It looks out of place and stacked on to me. The secondary issue I have is that this design has lost its vibe. It just doesn't look good when the S24 and S24+ look the same. Additionally it never felt right to me because it just felt like they took the Z Fold3's design and just removed the island.
This design feels generic and run of the mill. It doesn't have the spice unlike something like the Note20 Ultra or the S21 Ultra. They were works of art and Samsung left them for this generic looking thing. The S22 series onwards remind me more of the Mi 10 series more than they remind me of the S21 series or earlier Samsung phones.
But that's just my opinion. You're free to have yours.
