What I can't grasp is when people drop $2-3k on a laptop only to barely move it. If portability is a concern, I'd rather invest in mITX build with portable screen for far cheaper than to eventually kill the laptop through clogged vents (many people don't use cooling pad) and expensive ear treatment at clinics (yeah, laptop accoustics also cause ear pain and headaches) n stuff.

avoid intel if you dont want a dead laptop.

I've never understood these no name laptop makers like red magic, techno, infinite pairing an i9 with a low spec gpu like a 4060

I went the other route myself, full fledged gaming desktop and a Steam Deck, the latter is plenty enough for anything I would want to play on the go, and it more portable.

                  Perfect for just gaming

And if I want all the shiny graphics are fast framerates, I have my desktop for that.

Now is probably the worst time to release an Intel 14th gen based product. Combine that with the low spec GPU for this price range and I don't think it's gonna do too well.

I'll never comprehend the point of high end laptops. Sure, not everyone has the space for a desktop. Sure, some people want portability, but realistically, are you going to carry a cooling pad (because without that, it'll be like polishing your a** with a sandpaper) too when going abroad or being a guest at friends house? Cafe? Elsewhere? Most likely not. Most people don't even utilize the "portability" feature they so much boast about and game while sitting at the desk. It's pretty much dunking the money into the water.

They should really build a full AMD model as fast they can and rape the reap of INTEL/NVIDIA Defaulting Monopoly. Those components simply don't deserve their bucks. It's a Theft because we see the same 3 manufactures for the entire market.

Only when China will enter with their own components(GPU/CPU), then we will Talk. ;)

And unless you go 2k+ in dollars, you're in budget gaming laptop segment in my opinion. PC is a different matter though.

I'd recommend PC gaming any day, even though I started on a console and I still game on laptop. PC is anyday more rewarding in performance and money both.

Agree about Windows. Win 10 updates itself randomly at any point of time in life, with zero care about what urgency the user is in. And it takes 45 minutes from there.
I'm on Linux (Pop OS) now. Gaming mouse works out of the box, in fact, almost everything worked out of the box, including Nvidia GTX 10 series drivers.
Still, starting a game to see Vulkan drivers cache being updated, is a pain. The games are running ok though. I can't find enough tuneability, but I'm managing.

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2024So now every phone manufacturer can produce Computer of the... moreWorse, anybody can make their "own" laptop for years.

Any brand, no matter if redmagic, even pepsi or burger king or even bmw could contact tongfang/clevo and let them make "their own" laptop.

Clevo and Tongfang sale barebones often used by brands like XMG, but anybody can contact these two to make a laptop.

Tongfang and Clevo do 95% of the work, other 5% (at best) is the brand itself that wanted "their own" laptop.

Redmagic did the exact same thing here.

The “REDMAGIC” logo on the hinge is superfluous.
It is important for a gaming PC to stand out, but this logo stands out in the wrong way.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Tongfang and Clevo, they make great products with functionality often forgotten by many other brands (often on pupose)

But what RedMagic does here is buy a barebone Tongfang/Clevo chasis, pick some hardware that can go in such chasis, slap their logo on it and call it a day.
