"keeping screen ON while looking at it" - chinese phone have this for years and it work perfect.

After 3 updates phones will get nothing new and the bloatware would add up and meanwhile the battery and the processor will start to age. So you pag for something that's going to harm your device. That's samsung stealing from two ways.

I was considering buying the Viv... morei've waited 5 years for samsung to improve some half baked options like face unlock or keeping screen ON while looking at it and still work as bad, i rather pay for newer hardware with less updates than older hardware with more updates, easy to give more updates when you release pretty much the same phone year after year

Yeah I lost count on how many updates my Vivo X100 Ultra has received here in Canada. 8 or was it 9 in 2 months. Definitely a lot more than Samsung. Update 14.0.13.11 I got just few days ago. I guess the one advantage Samsung beats are security patches while Vivo focusses on camera and system stability. Vivo x100 Ultra are on July while Samsung Ultras are on August Security patch.

$1500USD phone that will get 2 years of bad updates, no AOSP support, no LIneageOS, no bootloader unlocking, no third party support. So a dead weight in 3 years.
Vivo/Oppo make great hardware, but their software and OS update support is seriously lacking (compared to Samsung, Google, even OnePlus and Xiaomi).
That's why these phones will almost exclusively end up selling only in China and some other parts of Asia.
