Honor is using a really high quality carbon fibre hinge, and have a larger battery capacity than Samsung despite being over 2mm thinner because of high quality silicon-carbon battery tech.
I do personally think that the foldable's frame might actually be a bit too thin, and would love to instead see the gap between the two halves reduced instead of having a thinner frame, which Tecno has shown is possible through their prototype phone with what they call Borderless Foldable Main Screen.

Looks like honor's hardware is pretty damn good. If only their software looked just as good and feature rich and ColourOS, HyperOS or stock android or OneUI.

Only Samsung did a unique pill shaped notch back with the S10+. Everyone else copied Apple.

Batteri Voltas, 31 Aug 2024But there could be multiple types of flips and multiple typ... moreI'm not saying they can't be available, but the fact of the matter is that foldables have super low demand in the first place. Having 2 different types of foldables is already risky and adding a different tier to that is going to be either extremely daring or quite foolish.
If there is little to no demand, who'd buy? And if people don't buy, who'd make em? Supply and demand my friend.
Smaller tech is tougher to make, look at the Zenfone 9 and stuff, they're small but pack flagship grade stuff but no one buys them, then look at the iPhone 15 Pro, small and top tier stuff but too expensive so most people go to the Pro Max unless they absolutely need the smaller size. Most people I know love smaller sizes but battery and the fact that you get a larger screen are far greater pulls than comfort so they go for the Pro Max or Plus phones. Besides, bigger phones tend to be perceived as being of higher value as they usually have had better features. So there's that psychology tactic working against smaller foldables as well.
I mean ask yourself this, why did Oppo stop the compact folds like the Fold N2? I think it's because not only is the foldable market quite competitive now and everyone wants the best one, but there's also not much demand for a smaller foldable. So they went where the market is.
I don't mean to be harsh but manufacturers pushing for larger phones isn't their fault, it's you and i, the consumers' fault. We dictated the market, they gave us what we want and people complain. Nothing we can do. I respect compact phones but usually they aren't worth it.

Folds could perfectly be available, from the same manufacturer, in a Oneplus-esque format with a shorter ratio or a Samsung-esque format with a tall ratio. Heck I'd absolutely love to see Sony have a go at a tall foldable

unpopular opinion, 31 Aug 2024Is it really that unpopular opinion to prefer the fold? I c... moreit's not wrong to prefer anything, it's wrong to shove your opinion down others' throats, especially when one thing is objectively better in terms of providing space for usage or by providing enough width to be comfortable but not so much so that it's detrimental.
The Honor has a 20:9 aspect ratio for its 6.5" display. While not tiny it is usable and imo 20:9 is the perfect aspect ratio for bezel less phones in terms of comfort-display real estate. It feels just like a normal bar phone whereas Samsung's one looks ugly, doesn't feel comfortable and isn't really usable. I've tried Samsung's one (Fold5) and it ain't good at all.
I've tried a Pixel 7, S20 FE and a Oneplus 8 so I have an idea of what the Magic V3 should feel like. All of them are 20:9 Mathematically speaking the Honor is SLIGHTLY taller than 20:9 (dividing 20:9 results in 2.22 whereas dividing Honor's cover screen res results in 2.24).
In an ideal world we get 2 foldables, one that is 5.5-6 inch for people who want compactness and another that is 6.5-7 inch for people who want maximum screen real estate. Unfortunately that's not possible as the foldable market isn't huge so they're divided into flips and folds.

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2024We can actually draw comparison between Cadillac vs BMW and... moreNot really, BMW isn't pushing the boundaries but they aren't making inferior cars to everyone else. Only Cadillac is pushing it but also letting go of luxury. Also, Honor is more globally available than most chinese competitors, only Oneplus has better availability but otherwise they're great.
I don't think your comparison works because you're downplaying BMW, making Cadillac look better (because you have to understand they push for everything else AT THE EXPENSE of luxury) and finally you're painting Honor out to be a hero when it's anything but. Their phones are better treated as novelties and "cool to have"s but they aren't making the best phones. Imo Vivo and Oppo are, balancing everything (cameras, screens, designs and battery) along with the software. Honor's software isn't the greatest and it also doesn't have the greatest track record of fast updates.
The ideal comparison is not available outside of the phone world (at least in my head) because what Samsung is doing is too greedy and they're taking advantage of their customers worse than everyone else and in nearly every other sector, the competitors are usually worse in terms of features or value or sometimes worse in both. Nearly every other competitor to Samsung is better and usually costs less.
For example, NVIDIA still makes the fastest/best GPUs, BMWs still make great cars that do their job well and competitors can't touch it in terms of either luxury or performance or they can't touch the balance that BMW strikes as Genesis, Audi and others provide a different feel/feature-set that attracts different customers and finally in terms of the TV marketplace, Sony makes the undisputed best TVs in the form of OLEDs with TVs such as the A95K and A95L.

Is it really that unpopular opinion to prefer the fold? I considered both but Samsungs design just looks much better, Honor looks like a toy to me and i much prefer the dimensions of the samsung, small cover screen for one hand operations etc.

BMW nowadays just selling based on brand image and not engineering excellence like they used to, same like Samsung. Cadillac make great looking performance cars that are mostly sold in USA, just like most Honor's better phones are only sold in China.

Availability ain't all that great for american cars at least from what I've seen. BMW is a low hanging fruit in terms of design. I like Cadillac, think they're cool and make some of the best sedans out there but idk man, bashing BMW ain't the way to go I think, BMW blends luxury and performance whereas Cadillac goes for more performance/badassery over luxury.
