Google Pixel 9 Pro XL vs. Pixel 8 Pro

I upgraded my P8P to the Pixel 9Pro XL and really disappointed it is just a minor upgrade on the design & chip performance, had it for a week after testing side by side and honestly save your money buy the P8P instead (some are selling at 40% discount), or if you could shell for more than buy the S24ultra instead which is still way ahead hardware, performance and battery as my brother upgraded his P8P to S24U instead.
So totally agree with GSM arena here, hardly any difference in fotos and videos are definitely worse off than my P8P. Was expecting a Big improvement in battery life but disappointed it is only slightly better maybe 1hr more than my old P8P, which had a 9mth old battery.
Google & other Fone manufacturers are so cunning with their iterative updates and yet kept upping the price, I dont see much value in updating yearly anymore so I am going to sell my 9Pro XL as new while I still can and wait for next year P10XL as I still like the stock Android Software compared with Samsung One UI .
Google I believe is getting out of Samsung Foundry and go with TSM, so Tensor G5 next year should be a much bigger improvements compared with T3 to T4.

You can be sure YouTubers will continue to call Pixel the best camera even thought everything have a grayish tint. MKBHD have been the main Pixel promoter since Pixel 1

Was going to get a discounted P8P around January but ended getting a P9XL with a $400 discount from my Telco. I do appreciate the better selfie camera, the better modem and the better ultrasonic fingerprintreader; so at the same price (with the discount) I'm happy.

Gsmarena, it would be better when you continued to diplay the f-number and exposure time when one taps on an image.

justasmile, 09 Sep 2024Just get the Pixel 8 Pro - 9 Pro XL is just overpriced.True but price will come down fast, after iPhone 16 Pro Max is released and specially after Samsung S25 Ultra. People just wait 3-4 months and buy it for 800 saving a ton of cash.

Bodygard, 08 Sep 2024Tensor G4 is on par with 8+ gen1 released in 2022. Google ... moreThe problem isn't that it's on par with an 8+ Gen 1. The problem is that it's on par with an 8+ Gen 1 and they're charging $1K for it.

"As previously anticipated, the camera quality remains largely unchanged."
That's actually not true at all when you take photos at 10x-30x. In contrast to Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL always uses analog binning at 10x-30x and seems to use a new machine learning based algorithm in order to compensate for the lower resolution, so you get less noisy results at 10x-30x, but the results contain more fake detail and can look upscaled/oversharpened.
If you don't use the 50 megapixel mode (which is slower and doesn't let you take live photos), then you only get 2.5 megapixel dng files at 10x (due to analog binning), whereas the Pixel 7 Pro delivers 11.4 megapixel at 10x. The Pixel 8 Pro gives you roughly 10.0 megapixel at 10x, if you don't use the 50 megapixel mode.

IMO, the 8 pro is the better option. The tensor G4 is just a "new core G3 with design changes".

8 Pro wins: design
9 Pro wins: battery endurance, photo quality
None of them are worth, even if sold at $650.
No matter what bias reviews on YouTube may say.
