Really cool looking phone, it also can find a nice niche in the 5mp slider market with it's awesome Linux-based OS!

I am a current owner of a ROKR Z6 and a ROKR E8, used the music phones of nokia, SE and the iPhoney and I can honestly say that SE Walkman phones are just slightly ahead or Moto is a par with them when it comes to audio quality (especially the E8).

When it comes to OS, for me MotoMagx is the best but the lack of 3G is a downer. I was waiting for the ZN5, but if the reports about this moto is true... I will have a hard time choosing between the 2.

Anonymous, 24 Oct 2008looks like a copy of W760's designThere are just so many sliders on the market more than half which will look simmilar only because of being on the same formfactor and if you may look at ur SE W760 u would find a copy of something else, like LG, Samsung, whatever. And the guys who moan about the keypad, when Moto use their flat keypad they introduced with the RAZR u complain, then they bring keys u still moan. What do u want from Motorola? People have different tastes and if u don't like this one go next door. BTW weldone Moto, and SE, Nokia,Sammy, LG: Moto is back!

In reponse to PARAG SHAH comments. The Nokia 6270 which was release in early 2006 remains the best mobile phone for playing music, sound quality wise.Although not label as a music phone. The pair of stereo speakers on the Nokia 6270 sound quality is yet to be match. You can do some research on that.

If the specs are true, 3g and wifi onboard. I will deffinitely give motorola a chance :) I was a hardcore moto fan, now experimenting and modding sonyericsson phones.

Who says Motorola is long dead?

This is just the start of a new era from Motorola. With its wide use of the Montavista Linux platform which can compete with Symbian and Windows Mobile and its future application of Google's Android OS, Motorola will once again rise from the ashes and start anew.

The VE66 is just one of the many phones Motorola will create to please everyone. Just wait and see.

Regarding comments that the phone is too thick, this is my opinion and constructive criticisms and discussions are welcome.

An auto-focus camera module needs to have some amount of thickness to be able to put in a good lens and a larger sensor. Optical physics dictates that. I guess that is why a dSLR with a larger lens and sensor and the distance between the lens the sensor outputs vastly superior images compared to a digital compact. Plus you need the space for the lens to move forward and backwards a bit to focus, especially during macro focusing.

So what would you have? A slightly thicker body with better camera module or ultra-slim with the trade-off in image quality? Any thoughts?

Motorola makes the coolest phones (I am a convert from SE). I personally own a ROKR E6, and these Montavista Linux fones are the most moddable fones available. With a bit of modding, (rather would say a fair bit; even flashed the official firmware with a monsterpack, courtesy 'aksd,' downloaded from Motorolafans), and installed some cool applications. The Winamp player (eXMMS) with fully working equalizers, just as you would use on a PC, really rocks in terms of the sound output - no other music fone can hold a candle to it.

Based on the features mentioned above for the VE66, would definitely look forward to getting one to complement my E6 (read - not a replacement. I am keeping my E6 to the very end, and that will be a sad day for me indeed although still a long time for it).

its touch sensitive. Check the stylus in sideshot.

the Morph Keyborad of the ZN5's really slick, that should've added that here. ZN5's still cooler excpt for lack of 3G
