Higher sequential read/write speeds and faster random access too.

Darth Caesium, 26 Sep 2024Let me guess, the next thing that will happen is a firmware... moreThis is the problem with SSDs, since the first SSD that a bought (a Samsung again, sight) it had a nasty bug that killed it instantaneously and I lost all my important files.

I had some backups, but it was so quick. Since then I still use a regular hard drive except for the OS partition.

It's true it should've been fixed sooner, but took time for new firmware to come. Again, I've built multiple PCs with 980 Pro and 990 Pro not too after their releases. Tested 980 Pro without even last firmware for quite some time and no issues. My 990 Pro drives were fine out of box and they have latest fiemware no issues. Again, early batch was an issue, but while it was posted online like anything nowdays, it gets loud. Good in a way for quicker fix. But don't act all drives were dying left and right. Small percent got locked etc. May as well avoid every company with this approach, because I assure you everyone had failures and much worse.

rizki1, 26 Sep 2024there is a lot of gaming handhelds with a 2230 form factor ... moreThey used to but nowadays they are easily available and cheaper, around $50-80 you get 1TB.

It was a... moreIt was 6 months and not a year, but regardless, it wasn't as uncommon as you are trying to portray it as, and the way in which Samsung addressed the issue was terrible. They should've acknowledged the issue the moment people began to experience it and talked about it online. Instead, they left it up in the air for quite a while, and their first attempt at fixing it caused BSODs for people if they chose to restart to apply the update instead of shutting down their computer. It's that air of confusion they created that was wholly incompetent, and the issue itself wouldn't be happening at all if they had proper QC.

Darth Caesium, 26 Sep 2024Let me guess, the next thing that will happen is a firmware... moreWhat are you on. That is not what happened at all. It was an issue with early batch firmware that was was not many users. It was fixed long time ago foe both series. I've build PCs with both and have multiple of 990 Pro in my system.

Let me guess, the next thing that will happen is a firmware bug that kills the SSD's health very quickly. Exactly what happened with the 990 Pro and the 2TB variant of the 980 Pro, and they only noticed and corrected it a year (2 years in the case of the 980 Pro) after release. Joke of a company when it comes to SSDs, I'll never buy an SSD from them again.
