Bennis, 26 Sep 2024Can someone explain what are the GB about in a VR headset? ... moreThe VR headset is a standalone platform without a PC. You can connect it to oc via cable or over wifi to play games with the OC hardware but otherwise it is capable of playing a few hundred games by itself. The standalone games are typically more mobile-phone-game quality graphically but there are some really great ones. They released resident evil 4 for it, for example. You can also store media to watch movies on giant screens or record your own interactions in apps and games, and download from the browser to your headset like any other PC/phone

Do yourself a favour and don't touch this POS company's products with a 10-foot pole even if your life depended on it.
They will knowingly brick your hardware, give you no solutions or options or paid alternatives to fix it and will casually turn your HMDs into oversized paperweights overnight.
Bitter owner of a now useless Rift S HMD here, take it from someone who has put money down to buy the products instead of the peanut gallery toadies who oooh-aaah from the sidelines inside the fanzone. FaceMeta is one of the worst companies out there, period. And I haven't even spoken about the repulsive amount of "phoning-home" that facebook products do.

Great to see lower prices, even though I don't like Meta as a company. $300 for a VR headset that is not trash is nice.

I've been thinking about getting into VR and AR for a fair while now and I might genuinely pick up the Quest 3S. It's basically a Quest 2 but better, and ironically it'll probably perform better than the standard Quest 3 due to the lower resolution.
The Orion is pretty impressive too, though they still do look a bit chunky. It's probably still going to be a while before we can get computer-power hardware into something as thin as actual glasses.
