The sliding-action for zoom may or may not be useful. As for a dedicated camera button, Motos had double tap on power button to launch camera and press volume key to take picture since way back.

[deleted post]Its true that apple didnt invent capture button or dedicated photo button but do you really think Oppo would be adding this button to their phones if Apple hadnt added it to iPhone 16 models

smart phone manufacturer are running out of ideas as the market had matured to the point where there isn't much new innovations - probably the one thing that we can look forward is new battery tech such samsung solid state battery. doubt any anyone will put in a real DSLR sensor in phone unless someone manage to come up with a new solution. everything at the moment is more or less so advance eg chipset/wireless modem/screen. probably the only difference is how manufacturer will smoothen their OS as hardware wise it's more or just gradual increments year by year which only leave the OS side with plenty of improvement.

This is the definition of 0 personality. I'm an Apple user, but surely not a fanboy. The Camera Control is pointless and a waste of resources that could've gone towards battery or throttling, ect. To add insult to injury now other brands are copying too, a seemingly useless, triple redundancy feature.
I can get past copying removing 3.5mm or the charger because it makes sense for the business event if it doesn't for clients, but adding something that has no use and nearly everyone seems to not particularly like just to be Iphone like is one of the main reasons because then, fanboys see Android brands as lesser.

I love how everyone's pretending that Sony doesn't exist. Talking about a simple camera button like it's the next best thing. Tech stagnation is in full effect.

Poorly placed, just like iphone's.
Also impossible to use this button without holding phone with the other hand.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2024How does Oppo's implementation of the camera button co... moreIf one thing's for sure, it won't be nearly as good for zooming in and out. Zooming in and out using a capacitive button works really well on an iPhone because Apple has complete control over their hardware/software which ends up making lens transitions considerably smoother. Physical controls need to be responsive or else you might as well get rid of them and stick with on screen controls, and we all know how lens transitions tend to look on Android.

Meh...i'll always say it's a gimmick being it apple or samsung or others. It's easier and faster most of the times to use the screen. Apple felt the need to show something "new" to justify launching another iphone. Others will copy now...

How does Oppo's implementation of the camera button compare with Apple's? Can you use the iPhone's camera button underwater or with gloves for instance?

There are reviewers who already mentioned how Apple couldn't really justify the usage of the additional button. Meaning that it doesn't bring ease of use. A classic is example adjusting the exposure: click on the capture button open menu, find exposure click, adjust exposure click. Meanwhile, you can just tap on screen and lower it. That's it.
All the fuzz about a useless button which doesn't even bring the functionality of the existing button that Sony uses. At least, half press works better on Sony and does the refocus better with a much better feedback to the user. That additional button maybe only useful if they give the ability to map it sth else. Well, Samsung been there and removed it.
I'm a vivo user. I love certain aspects but I also hate certain aspects about the Chinese producers. Especially one of them being there copycat of other brands.
Samsung switches to flat display. Then Chinese makers finally come to their senses and go for flat also. Stpd display Island, copy paste. Stpd virtual button, copy paste right away...
What a ridiculous approach to the market. Just look at the opponent and say 'oh they did it, let's do it'. Until then where's your mind dear executives? You didn't know it until opponent did it?
You know adding a headphone jack would be much more useful or adding a micro sd card to slot. I know that sleeping buyers will jump on me for these last two as they are 'oh super okay with it', 'oh who uses wired headphones nowadays?', 'oh we have cloud. I'm super okay to pay every month ridiculous amount of money for no reason...'
How sony still adds both then? How Asus still adds headphone jack? Or how most of brands provides more features to their middle class smartphones? I wouldn't stand for it if I didn't care about shooting so many photos. I literally uses phone more than than camera nowadays and trend keeps moving forward.
Yet, we keep seeing copycats. No, innovative approach. I guess it's died with LG. Poor guys did most of the things first in the market but didn't survive.

I don't really mind if a feature was copied or an original idea, as long as it ends up being a good feature it'll be a net positive for the consumers.
