PatDat, 15 Oct 2024You mean real zoom? If yes then it will be huge compromise ... moreOptical quality may not be most important in a tele zoom. Just being able to get a shot is worth a lot. Now Xperia 1 VI can get decent quality shots at 3.5-6x zoom (and downsampled to perhaps 8MP) but quite bad at 7.1x which is max.
Phones with prime lens tele (and large High-MP sensor) can get amazing shot at 3/4x and decent quality at 6-8x.
A smartphone is primarily used for "vacation type" shots. And prime tele lenses is not at all that useful for "vacation type" shots. Having prime tele lens you will have 2 lenses (3/6x) and with Sony you will have 8 lenses (3.5x-4x-4.5x-5x-5.5x-6x-6.5x-7x) while maybe the last 2 are not good enough (optically) even for "vacation style" shots.
I might be altogether wrong but now I've bought the Xperia 1 VI on Black Week offer. Hopefully it will make me happier than S23 Ultra garbage cameras :)

Maybe this 100mm f/2.6 200 megapixel rumor is true, but I am a little bit sceptical because a 100mm field of view, f/2.60, 200 megapixel and 0.56 micrometer pixel size would require an effective lens diameter of approximately 1.0cm ! Would be surely exciting, but for comparison, the Vivo X100 Ultra "only" has 8.42mm, which is currently the maximum among smartphone cameras.

Eduard33, 15 Oct 2024DCS sometimes edits the post and just says that. Go look at... moreDigital Chat Station (posts on Weibo) are not a source leaks fabricated stories.
On X he posts as Ice Universe ONE PERSON TWO PLATFORMS. (On occasions he deletes some within hours so reported articles here have no source.)
Whether he post on Weibo or X as Ice Universe these are fabricated scores supported by mocked up non working rendered phone or benchmark that lack many details or have incorrect details.
DCS or IU is not confirming a story he is just repeating himself.
Rumours only have one source whether reported on other websites one source not verified by another person.
Some rumours / leaks from official sources etc are the real deal. However when no one else is confirming DCS / IU leak just reporting them, seasoned readers do not invest in speculation. This your comment is wrong because the information you relied on is wrong.
Example on Mediatek Dimensity D9400 IU 'leaked' just day before official release what he purported to be Cortices clockspeed (reported here)
You would think that reporting observed facts was easy, he stated cortex X5 (re X925). Also X4 and A720 in the D9400 are the same as D9300. 3 errors on the D9400, no apology or explanation afterwards.

MrFas, 15 Oct 2024Did you mean the Xiaomi 15 Ultra or Pro? vs the X200 Pro miniThe regular Xiaomi 15 is a better competitor for the Vivo x200 pro mini as it's about the same size and will be around the same price. The Xiaomi 15 pro and 15 ultra will be in different price categories. The Xiaomi 15 pro will compete against the Vivo x200 pro not the mini.

alteran, 14 Oct 2024Just fix ugly instagram shots, no one cares your 200 or 500... moreWell, there is probably 1Mp limit at social networks, could be even considered hi res at that, at least, when I tried to see those resolution limits last time...
But people didn't like 4mp in phone, they just love to pinch and zoom maybe, or is it something deeper?
Also hi res from samsung flagship is not the same as hi res from mid range of any other random brand, difference is astronomical in dynamic range and detail too, so hi res matters, but a lot depends on brand and performance category.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2024" Somehow, still makes me remember nokia 808 41Mp lvl ... moreI'm glad you mention that, so I can explain.
1. shooting 41mp on 808 is possible, but certain app or settings was needed to be applied(do not remember exactly what it was - you can google it) - of course, it wasn't 4:3 picture ratio but something more uneven.
2. it was old sensor, old lens, old processing - and it still produced good enough detail, even with that noise being there.
3. downsampling was great to instantly shoot and share small files, but there are people who would use full resolution, like now you can shoot 12mp, 24mp, 50mp, 200mp on s24u.
4. As a secondary 64mp/40mp cameras: Magic3, Magic3 Pro and Pro+, P50pro, IIIF150 Raptor and other outdoor phones use no bayer or even no IR/UV filter for B&W images in full resolution(no bayer make it capture even better detail than standard bayer) with better low light capability compare to standard bayer, not to mention way way better low light capability without IR/UV light filter.
As a zoom camera: 3.5x 64mp in Honor Magic 4 Pro using normal bayer to get better stills at higher zoom (sharper than S22U even - try search on youtube: Camera Comparison: Honor Magic 4 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra).
5. stacking multiple frames with high resolution is a better than single low res, thats why is hi res used, as for quad/multi-bayer, its used to shorten readout when stacking for low light and moving subjects, but its useful mostly when full sensor is used, not part as its commonly used with tele cameras shooting at 8x-20x a lot of the time.
Basically no reason to not use it for better tele or low light photography, as well as removed IR/UV filter, but companies seems to like fighting for bits and pieces than introducing a new fresh technology, well at least removable IR should be possible.
As for multi layer bayer and faster hi res readout, its gettig better...

Mobilemaster, 15 Oct 2024I am talking about something we see on the Sony phones, but... moreGonna wait forever. Zoom is more expensive than two of fixed range .
Oppo system has waited 3 years already 80-200mm.
It would be out if they wanted
