iPhone 16 Pro Max vs. iPhone 15 Pro Max

How does Apple's 2024 Pro Max stack up to the 15 Pro Max from last year?

Darth Caesium, 01 Nov 2024I do agree that Apple weren't innovators even back the... moreidk what phones you have used but i have tried apple phones throughout the years and they've stayed essentially the same at heart in terms of software but with the added benefits of a LOT of customization in newer ones. Apple is closing the gap with stock android, if it hasn't already. Only Samsung's Goodlock gives Samsung a boost and most samsung users either don't know about it or don't have access to it in their country.

Idk why you're talking so lowly of Apple, I'm no Apple fanboy but I must admit that their packages are quite well rounded. Thin bezels, extremely bright, fast chips, exceptional battery life, great camera experience for normies and probably the best video recording on phones still. Styles and always on depth info are game changers imo cus anyone can choose to make any photo a portrait and styles are basically like the Leica/Zeiss filters/modes if used properly, with the added benefit of being able to switch stuff up later on.

Let me ask you an important question, WHY should Apple improve at a faster rate/bring big changes? Their primary hardware competitor was Samsung and software competitor may have mostly been Google. So Android is basically 80-90% the same on most phones so there's that and Pixel's hardware and Samsung's hardware is quite comparable with Apple. Same sized main sensor, same type of 5x telephoto, no telemacro capabilities. Samsung and Apple have the same sized UW cam and Google and Samsung have the same sized Tele lens. They're all not THAT far off each other, Samsung only has a 3x that's smaller than Apple's 5x so in lowlight both are pretty much useless.

Back then Huawei was pushing the whole smartphone market and they got nuked. Now Apple, Samsung and Google are cruising by with tiiiiny changes each year. Why should only Apple innovate/change, when they're known for being greedy/the greediest of the bunch? These 3 are the same to my eyes, though Apple is worse than Samsung because they nuke stuff with updates but Google is the worst cus they neither have the best optimization in terms of software nor do they have the best hardware.

jiyen235, 01 Nov 2024correction, Apple never were innovators. They were the best... moreI do agree that Apple weren't innovators even back then to a large extent, but it would be very easy to dismiss them as not being innovative at all when they revolutionised software. Sure, iOS wasn't very expansive at first, and the Motorola Droid was the first smartphone and not the Apple iPhone, but it had a very seamless ecosystem in a way that had never been done before and made it easy to use and idiot-proof. Same goes for the iPod, which was largely innovative due to its software and not due to its hardware.

Nowadays, Apple doesn't have the most rounded package, nor is it the easiest to use, and they have lost their biggest advantage. Furthermore, with regulators slowly breaking up their closed garden, they will lose control of their product and lose their admittedly double-edged advantage of a tight ecosystem, and lose all of their remaining advantage too.

They were the best at seeing some trend or good thing and refining it to an incredible level. Everyone else did what Apple did, earlier. But Apple differentiated themselves by having either a better package overall or a more easy to use interface and stuff.

People criticising Apple for incremental improvements are so zoned in on their hate, they don't notice the rest of the smartphone market. Foldables, that's it. That's the only real innovation, and Samsung are at the forefront.

You iPhone fanboys are all the same. You can't take any form of criticism, not even genuinely helpful and constructive criticism, because of an ego that stretches past continents and a fervent desire to engage only in logical fallacies. I didn't even say iPhones are bad phones, I just said that they haven't changed enough since the iPhone 12 series.

About the battery thing, yes, I know that iPhones have better battery life than other phones (excluding certain Sony Xperia phones and extremely niche rugged phones), but it could be even better. Apple is certainly very stingy with this when they could literally give their phones the same battery capacity as every new phone with a Li-Po battery, and have better-than-all-day battery life. Hell, with the iPhone 17 series, they could then go a step further and use the new Si/C batteries and have absolutely incredible battery life. Why won't Apple do it? Because they're not the innovators that they present themselves to be anymore. They used to do absolutely amazing things, even if said things weren't so widely important to consumers, and their devices were the definition of excess in certain areas — the perfect definition of a flagship, really. Now, that's really not true, and they keep having to catch up with everyone else around them.

Apple really is stagnating. The new ultrawide should've been larger (think 1/2.0"-type) and had a brighter focal aperture (think f/2.0; the telephoto should've received the 48MP 1/2.55"-type sensor instead; and there should've been a new selfie camera with a 48MP, 1/2.8"-type sensor or even preferably that same 1/2.55"-type sensor. Also, you really expect me to believe that you can't fit a 5,000mAh battery in there? Really? That 4,600mAh battery you've got there could also instead go inside the smaller Pro. And if that's somehow not possible, just increase the thickness. No one cares if their phone is 8.3mm thick instead of 8.6mm thick, because 300µm is an imperceptible difference in thickness.

The 4-year-old selfie camera at this point is a joke, the ultrawide has received almost no upgrades, and the periscope uses a sensor small enough that I don't believe even for a second that it wouldn't have fit inside the iPhone 15 Pro's body. Apple needs to wake up and take itself seriously.
