The Mighty Qualcomm just released Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. OH NO! What should I do? Replace my Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphone. Just to get an additional +2% FPS when gaming? Spend another $1,000 on a slightly improved android processor?

I don't know how everyone became an expert on chipsets. LOL. Relax. Read the article, enjoy it, and buy the device you find appropriate for you. Qualcomm and Gsmarena are both making money while we are all sleeping, why should we worry so much?

On team android there is one benefit of making more powerful chipsets even if some users are gonna only use it for Instagram etc
And that is competition unlike apple in its closed system where the performance gains don't drive competition as only apple products will use the processor

I also think that performance of the phones increased so much in the last few years that differences are minimal, let's say between a 1 million points phone and a 2 million points phone (at least in day to day usage). Other factors are more important now when choosing a model or another (not just raw performance).

Doesn't AnTuTu clearly say on their website that Android and iOS cannot be compared due to completely different API?
Even the app version and software layout is different on pictures.

Sakamatcha Chloe, 19 Oct 2024If you want efficiency dont buy snappy 8 or dimen 8k/9k.
T... moreSomeone already explained well to add from there D9400 use just 1.9W when scoring 3000 geekbench score, for comparison likes of sd 695 which are know to use really low power use over 2W and multicore is less than 3000.
cortex A720 use less than 1W, for once since sd 865 era cortex A720 is more efficient than midrange alternative, hence nowadays Flagship are much better efficient wise compare to midrange.
3000 geekbench score that kind of perfomance is enough for 99% of tasks out there, in other words many Phones with D9400 would surpass 10hr SOT this year, no Excuse.

T... moreDimensity 9400 actually looking promising and when most are adding 6000mah + battery, hopefully sd8g4 is similar at least
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 pairs an all-performance-core CPU design with an Immortalis-G925 GPU. The new GPU appears to be a performance and efficiency champ, as it reportedly consumes the same energy as the A18 Pro while significantly beating the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. What's more, MediaTek's chip seemingly runs cooler than all the competitors
When tested with Genshin Impact, the Dimensity 9400 inside the Vivo X200 Pro only consumed around 4.4 W. The Apple A18 Pro inside the iPhone 16 Pro essentially matched this figure with a consumption of 4.3 W.
On the other hand, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (Xiaomi 14 Ultra) and the Dimensity 9300 (Vivo X100S) consumed a whopping 5.8 and 5.4 W respectively. The power consumption of the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside the Red Magic 9S Pro was even higher at 6.3 W.
To put these figures into perspective, the Dimensity 9400 shows a power consumption advantage of 18.5% vs the Dimensity 9300+ and an even more impressive 24% vs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra

That lineup always has been for maximum performance!
For maximum efficiency you can just buy snappy 4 / 6 or dimen 6k.
For a good balance between performance and efficiency there is snappy 7 or dimen 7k.

Custom Oryon cores or not. This is pointless. Did they forget they are making mobile phone cpu not a level entry desktop cpu. Morden mobile cpu are already fast as it is, instead of chasing numbers, why not prioritize efficiency.
I want my phone to last me all day, not burn me all day
