Aprox, 01 Nov 2024Say what you want about Apple, but their chip designers are... moreI wouldn't say so. Their mobile chips have been declining more and more, their laptop chips have gotten less and less thermal headroom. The thing that keeps them ahead is having the best manufacturing process, which they pay a lot for

Again here we are talking about m4 pro and maybe what competiton is there..you bring up first off topic about smartphone chip and now about headphone jack and so on..im dome with off topic. Is not respectable for the others

[deleted post]“Secondly, "Voting with your Wallet" does not work. Especially when it is a captured market.
Mainstream people voiced and voted, and we said do NOT remove the headphone jack. ”
You are talking about Apple and how the industry follows them, im talking IF all the android people would not buy exynos or phones without headphone jack thenthose would seeks to exist OR bring back headphone jack to their other phones. People wallets send the message, but the problem is the 80% people are buying what they are given, they like to be slaves of the industry where conpetition was fears in android world

Aprox, 01 Nov 2024Say what you want about Apple, but their chip designers are... moreJobs never had which is true, i believe it wont make much difference. he probably would only market it better as he was a genius in just that.

Anonymous, 01 Nov 2024People vote with their money and if samsung cannot keep the... moreFirstly, 5 Years in the Technology Space is a long time, as long as there is competition and not stagnation. For instance, we went from slow single-core Pentium III processors to very fast dual-core 64bit Athlon X2 processors in such a timeframe. Or we went from the graphics of the cheap Nintendo Gameboy Color and GameCube to the midblowing experience of the first PSP handheld and Xbox 360 console. Or we went from the likes of the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 6S Plus.

Secondly, "Voting with your Wallet" does not work. Especially when it is a captured market.
Mainstream people voiced and voted, and we said do NOT remove the headphone jack. They did it anyway. We did not get a choice. We were forced to buy their phones and their Bluetooth Earbuds. Businesses make decisions that generally favour them, the consumers have been divided, have been conquered, and are powerless to do anything about it, most of the time.

Thirdly, the chipset of the phone doesn't matter for most users. You can swap out the QC 8g3 for an old QSD 855, and most people wouldn't notice. Truthfully, most people pay way too much for these Above-Flagship phones, or this new Luxury Phone category. There's not much difference between Exynos or Qualcomm. Remember I am talking about the +80% of buyers.... you, me, and other people on this website are the minority. Now I am not excusing Samsung, I am merely bringing some context and reality to this situation you have brought up.

But you are talking about smartphone chips..heres about laptops/desktop SoC and here we still have apple amd intel , 5 years ago apple was non existent since it was relying on Intel chip

Anonymous, 01 Nov 2024My god…at this pace..nobody cant meep up with Apple because... moreBack during the 2014-2016 era we actually had a lot more competition in terms of microarchitecture and development by other companies:
                    - Apple Twister (Apple A9)
                    - MediaTek Cortex-A72 (Helio X20)
                    - HiSilicon Cortex-A73 (Kirin 960)
                    - Qualcomm Kyro (QSD 820)
                    - Samsung Mongoose (Exynos 8890)
                    - Nvidia Denver (Tegra K1)

Then after a decade in 2024:
                    - Apple A17 Pro (barely improvements over 2021's A15)
                    - Cortex-A720 (and it's X4 derivatives from Qualcomm and MediaTek)

...that is stagnation and lack of competition. Thank goodness we are getting some improvements now/soon/next year !!!

It is very interesting to watch the switch to arm, hopefully it works out for them. I think nvidia is getting back in the game next year so it'll be interesting to watch the new soc race.

Say what you want about Apple, but their chip designers are miles ahead of everyone else. I know it's likely a chance rather than Cook's achievement, but Jobs never had such brilliant semicon engineers.
