The same reason we're getting 8GB RAM on the entire lineup of iPhone 16 and the newer iPad. Bet the new iPhone SE base iPad will also come with 8GB of RAM. Now we just need an "excuse" so they can bump up the minimum storage on the iPhone/iPad to 256GB, and the minimum storage of Mac to 512GB lol.
Looks like that "iPhone didn't need as much RAM as the Android, and Mac didn't need as much RAM as the Windows" statement didn't aged well.

Apple know 8GB is unusable now so basically an admission of their ridiculous memory practices. For the price of a MB Air in Europe I could buy a gaming laptop with a proper CPU and GPU with replaceable RAM and SSD!

Steep discounts only in US haha because in Europe? nah.
      2022 Macbook Air 2022 with M2 costs €1249 ($1350)
      Macbook Air 2023 with M3 €1349 ($1460)
      Macbook Pro 2024 with M4 €2000 ($2200)
And these are the base versions of each model.

Continue to rip us Apple, we love it :)

Lets be honest, they didn't upgrade the older models to 16 GB out of generosity, but because they straight up can't sell those models with 8 GB anymore without facing a lawsuit or something similar, because their "8 GB is enough" marketing was bullshit looking back on it.
