pl2rts, 01 Nov 2024Why not have like one system that can be used by all brands... moreThe short answer is that the different satellite networks were developed at different times for different purposes. But I'd expect in the next ~5 years that we'll see some sort of standards developed for both emergency and regular satellite communication to smartphones. From there, it will just be similar to choosing your telecom provider (although the OEM may be choosing for you and roll the cost into the device, we'll have to see if this continues to be the case).

Why not have like one system that can be used by all brands in the space then have 10 different brands have their own satellite network. Like it's not a problem already that there is too much space waste in the orbit so they need to make more of it
